Painting Nails And Dying Hair

This is probably a dumb question, but is it okay to paint your nails and dye your hair during pregnancy? I thought as long as you weren't feeling light headed or bothered by the smell it was no big deal. I painted my nails the other day and my sister nearly had a heart attack! I was planning on getting my hair cut and dyed but now I'm thinking maybe it's not such a good idea?

you should be fine... I had my nails done and I dyed my sisters hair and Im okay, of course thats just me... but I think youre right, as long as you arent feeling light headed you should be okay. just make sure you get some hair if you start to feel ill.

Your sister is neurotic! I am a hairdresser working at a full service salon. I color hair for a living and Im 38 weeks pregnant with my "first" child. People like your sister will make you feel paranoid about everything which isn't healthy for you. You can paint your nails, dye your hair, etc. If you start feeling uneasy then don't do it but my opinion is you will be fine. I breathe chemicals all day and have no prob with anything....and I have 3 other co-workers who just had their healthy babies and had no problems. Come on now some people need to stop trying to find problems with everything. First most do what you think is right and don't listen to others unless your doctor tells you otherwise.

I would worry as well lol but that's just me. Ive painted my nails a couple times, I just opened a window beside me. Hair dye is a lot more strong - I wouldnt colour my hair during my pregnancy, I heard it wasn't the safest thing to do. But that is just me - I tend to worry a lot about things like that :o)

painting your nails is totally fine - hair dye - they SAY might possibly get into you skin - but personally, it doesn't really worry me. then again, I don't color my hair! :)

Well Joely good answer I couldn't agree more some people would put us in bubbles if they thought they could get away with it - things have really changed over the years - I dye my hair regularly and I did will all of my pregnancies with zero complications

Whew! Thanks ladies, my roots are growing in and I have to say, I look pretty ridiculous. I'd hate to walk around like this for another 2 1/2 months.

Amanda.....I say do what you feel is right. My first trimester I didn't let color touch my scalp just to be safe. Now that your in your third trimester you should not have to worry about it. The only think that might happen is your color might take different due to your hormones. Your hairdresser will know what to do and you can have her put a plastic cap on after she applies the color so you don't smell it....go outside and get fresh air if it bothers you. I really never had a prob but thats me and Im not sensitive to the smell although I do have a keen sense for smelly perms....yucky! I have a sister like you so I totally know how you feel. Just don't talk to people about it is what I do. Everyone thinks they know better. You have to feel good about yourself, right? Believe me Im at the end and Im just trying to keep up my appearance in my own home by myself. You never know when labor starts and I don't want to look like hell froze over before I even get to the hospital. It makes a difference in your self esteem. Good luck babe!

Ive painted my nails... i guess i didnt really think about it! as for coloring hair ive been told to wait until you are out of your first trimester ( thats what my sister was taught in school ) ive heard it can get into your blood stream. I've decided to stay away from it but ive also known other people to do it and everything ended up okay.
