Ok, this is unfortunately going to be short because as you know, new moms don't have a lot of time to blog. If you want the full version with tons of details you'll have to call. Started contractions around 4 am on the 19th, the day after Nate passed his series 7. The day we prayed for her to come! The contractions were bearable for most of the time, so bearable I wasn't sure we were actually in labor. Once the sun came up we went for a long walk followed by a shower and timing contractions. By 10:30 they were 2 to 4 minutes apart and getting stronger. We went to the hospital but I thought we would be sent home because I just figured I hadn't labored enough or had strong enough contractions to be ready. We got there and sat down to wait for the doctor to check me. When she saw me sit down she laughed with the nurse saying I wouldn't be staying...laboring women don't sit. Well, she checked me and I was 6 cm dilated! She said, "you go girl for getting this far without pain meds!" They hooked me all up and asked if I wanted an epidural. I didn't want one just yet but they told me that if I didn't "put in my order" now, I wouldn't get to cause the anesthesiologist had two back to back c-sections. So I decided to get it and boy am I glad I did. Shortly after that the contractions were really painful. I was shouting through them. I dealt with about an hour of those before the epidural came. It was heavently, but only on one side! I was still shouting through the pain on the other side! He tried to fix it for a while but my doctor accidently broke my water at this time and then there was no time to fix it! Ok, check this out, this is the best part of the story... once my water broke, my cervix went back down to 5 cm because the bag of waters was holding it open to 6 while it was still intact and now that it had broken it closed up a little bit. Just as the doctor was telling me this she said, "never mind, you're at 8, 9, you're fully dilated! All of that happened in under a minute! So then it was time to push, but I was afraid...I was there for Raine's labor so I knew it was no picnic! But I had no choice. Anyway, here is another awesome part. They had me do some practice pushes and after I learned the right way to push, she came in 15 minutes! That pressure was so intense and the back pain in my left side was constant...I just wanted it to be over. When the baby was crowning the doctor said, "ok...now you're going to have to push through the burn"...I knew just what she was talking about cause this was the part that scared me about watching Raine's birth... so I braced myself and pushed until I felt a plop. Her head was out! And I didn't feel the burn! It was amazing. Then her body slide out, dad cut the cord and they laid her on me. I just collapsed in exhaustion from the pushing and cried with relief and joy and held my baby girl. I got a nice second degree tear and the worst part of it all the having that st_tched up. She weighed in at 7 lbs 8 ounces and 19 and 3/4 inches long. She had long black curly hair when she was just born but after her bath it was straight and lighter. Anyway, it all happened so fast that they didn't have the chance to give me the two doses of antibiotics for my GBS. I was only hooked up to iv for about 3 hours before she was born. Recovery has been great too. The Lord really blessed us with an amazing birth and a perfect daughter.
