Your Doctors Guess On Baby Weight

Hi ladies I am curious.... I had a doc appointment today and I asked her so what do you think my l/o weight is going to end up being. Now I have been having u/s every 6 weeks to make sure everything internal was growing like the rest of her. She told me if Victoria is going to continue to grow the pace she is growing now she may very well end up being over 9 lbs! Holy Shit! Oh I am 29 weeks. I thought it was interesting... I know this probably wont be her weight but it is neat to see they can already make a calculated guess at it. So I was wondering if anyone else has had a guess to what their l/o is going to weigh?

With my 1st pregnancy my doc made a guess when I was about 30wks along. He guessed my ds would be a 7lb baby. He ended up being born at 7lbs 4oz. Some experienced docs can make a pretty good guess. At my next appointment I will be 30wks and I will be asking him to make an educated guess again. Personally, I am guessing that baby #2 will be another 7lb'er.

Sorry, my doc made his guess solely by feeling for baby on my abdomen. I never had a u/s later in my pregnancy.

well i am going to have a big baby. lets see where to begin. at my 20 week scan my little boy was 12 oz, i had to go back at 28 weeks for a scan to if his kindeys cleared up which they did, but my little guy was already 3lbs. 1oz.. he scheduled me another u/s for 33 week 5 days cause of the size and his measurement where big, and the little guy was 7lbs 1 oz, and big. i go on monday to see how big, and to see if i need to be induced or what to do. i am 36 weeks 3 days. i am huge. we are guessing if i go to term possiabley a 10pounder. i am hoping high 8s so i don;t die

Just out of curiousity have the ever estimated the weight for you during your ultrasounds? At 25 weeks my son was measuring 2 pounds 3 ounces. My daughter was born at 41 weeks and was 8 pounds 11 ounces.

kay101: Well looking in my "pregnancy bible" (hehe) the AVERAGE baby is 2.5 lbs by 29wks. This average is based on a baby weighing 7.5lbs at birth. If your daughter had been born on her due date she probably would have weighed just 8lbs. Babies generally tend to gain 1/2 lb a week during the 3rd trimester. So, guesstimating with your son's weight at 25wks I would say he will weigh about 8.5lbs (if born by his due date). Haha don't quote me though...I am just guessing.

At 36 1/2 weeks with my second pregnancy my second son was guesstimated to be in the high 6's by ultrasound. My OB thought at the time possibly 7 lbs by feeling the outside of my belly. I had him at 38 1/2 weeks and he weighed 7 lb 13 oz so the guesstimates from both were accurate. I'm pregnant now and at 36 weeks she weighed 7 lb 2 oz according to ultrasound; my OB thought she's around 7 lbs by feeling outside of my tummy. I'm being induced Thursday so we will see if they're right!

With my first my OB estimated a little over 7 lbs. She was 6 lbs 8 oz. exactly what I had guessed.

with my first they were guessing 7 pound and she was 7 and 1oz and with this 2nd baby nobody ever mentioned anything about the size which i thought was strange - untill i birthed a 9 pounder 5 ouncer!!!!!!! Now i know why they didnt mention it, they would've scared the bejebas outta me! In saying that though i had both naturally with no drugs and couldnt tell the difference it all bloody hurts no matter what!!!! :)

My GP guessed my daughter's birth weight just by feeling for her in my belly. His guess was 9lbs, and my OB's guess was 9-9.5lbs. My daughter was 8lbs 14oz! Yup...my GP was only out by 2oz. (He wasn't too pleased though, because with his last patient he'd stuck with kilograms, and had only been out by 50grams!) Yeah, she was big, but she's such a good baby...sleeps through the night (only wakes once in the night to eat), doesn't fuss, and she eats well. If bigger babies mean happier babies, I'll take the big ones! :)
