Gestational Diabetes And Steak

I've been diagnosed with gestational diabetes for about 7 days now. I'm doing what I can to control it, but I REALLY need some help in the eating area. I didn't get a dietician or anything like that, I was given a piece of paper with 10 meal plans for breakfast, 19 for lunch, 19 for supper and 18 snacks. Many of the meals are very similar, just subst_tuting one small thing like milk for 1/2 cup fruit juice. All in all, I feel TRAPPED. Is anyone here a gestational diabetic? Can you have steak? Ribs? Seafood? All I have on my list is whole grain sandwiches, tortillas, eggs, a sausage link, salads and crackers in my meals.

Rockwife: I had GD when was prego with my DD (she is now 8 months). You can totally have steak and seafood and really anything you want as long as you have it in moderation. I would not recommend you going out and putting down a 24 oz t-bone!!!! My nutritionist said this: everything in moderation, and do you know how to count your carbs? That is the best thing that they taught me. Say you can only have two carbs in the morning (did they give you a nution plan??) anyway...each 15 grams of carbs equals 1 carb. So say a bag of pretzels says that there is 35 grams of carbs per serving that means that if you ate the pretzels you have eatten your two carbs for that meal time. Also don't forget to do the snacks...that is really important. MY GD got really really bad. I eneded up on lots of medication the docs and I could not control it...I almost had to go on insuline but they induced me instead because the GD was affecting my placenta. So be careful....take it seriously...but also you can have anything you want....just watch your carbs...and everything in moderation. ****I hope this helped a little*****

Rockwife: I currently have GD too and some days are betther than others. Melissa32179 is right you have to watch your carbs. My perinatal specialist said that as you get bigger it may be harder to keep your lucose leels under control. I was daignosed about 5 weeks ago and in the last week I have noticed my levels creeping even though I am watching carefully. Don't worry, you will be fine. They just wnat to make sure the baby doesn't get too large where it cold complicate delivery. I am required to fax my sugar levels every Tuesday to my dr. so he can make sure things are remaining ok. You can go to any local bookstore and look for books on GD and possible foods that are ok to eat. Hope thins helps and congrats on the little one!!!!
