OK! So every month it seems that the mommies to be ask the question of what to pack for the hospital! I never really pay attention, bc well lets face it, there are so many other things to remember and write down, I just don't! So anybody have some input as to what needs to be in the hospital bag, what they wish they would of taken, but forgot, when should this be packed, etc, etc, etc! As a first timer, I am going at this blind! However, that book "Girlfriends guide to pregnancy", has a lot of really great things in it! I will list some of them later! Anyways, any advice would be nice...

Some of the things I took and/or wish I'd had were: slippers, socks, soap and lotion, underwear you don't care about, a couple of sets of clothes to go home in (different sizes, you don't know how things will fit), pillow, chapstick, toothbrush and paste, clothes and snacks for whoever will be staying with you. Hope this gives you at least a start. I packed my bag at about 37 weeks.

Yes I forgot to include a robe! You will need a robe since you may have to walk around and the hospital gowns don't close in the back. I had taken pajamas but never used them. The hospital provided a gown that had slits for nursing and you will be checked to make sure you're healing okay and that your uterus is shrinking so it was just easier to stay in the gown.

I am 37 weeks and 2 days pregnant with baby #2. I am having a planned C-section on July 21. My bag is packed already because I have a history of going into labor early. Baby #1 came 10 days early.
My bag includes the following:
2 sets of pajamas (nursing jammies)
Socks
slippers
Granny panties (the big bloomers are most comfortable after delivery especially when you are wearing those tremendous pads)
Sleep mask
Ear plugs (in case of noisy roommate)
b___st shields (protects sore nipples)
Lanisol cream (soothes sore and cracked nipples)
Breast pads (for leaking b___sts)
2 Nursing bras
cell phone charger
copies of my ID and insurance cards (i don't recommend bringing valuables such as jewelry and wallets to a hospital)
shower gel (travel size)
Shampoo and conditioner (travel size)
towel
toothbrush & paste
2 pens (going to have to fill out the birth certificate paperwork)
My bag is small and I will lay out clothes for me and the baby for my husband to bring on the day we will be discharged. No sense in having stuff you won't need during your stay. It's just more stuff for you to keep track of and potentially lose.

I packed a bunch for my first, though never used anything since I was ready to go when I arrived (sneaky fast baby!). On my list for the next one, just in case, is:
Yoga birthing ball, robe, slippers, good pillow with bright pillowcase (so that the hospital does not mistake it for theirs), pillow for husband in case of a long haul, honey sticks for some quick good sugary energy, power bars, boppy for nursing. I have also been told to bring some basic medicines that I might need like Tums, because even though it is a hospital, if they have to call down to the pharmacy, it might take 1/2 hour before you get it. I am at 31 weeks. Perhaps I should start thinking more about this. thanks for the post!

With my first pregnancy I packed a bag, but ended up packing a bunch of stuff I didnt use. Like, I brought my portable DVD player and DVD's...yeah, never used it. I brought baby clothes but the baby ended up needing Preemie clothes since she was so small, so I didn't use any of the clothes I packed for her. What I needed to pack, and didn't, silly me, was toiletries. Such as shampoo/conditioner, body soap, lotion. Stuff like that. The first thing I couldn't wait to do after giving birth was take a shower!! One thing I did pack that was nice was something to hold my hair back. I had my hair back in a pony tail, and then a cloth head band to help hold the hair back that tends to fall out of the pony tail. ( I didn't want to worry about my hair being all over the pace while I was in labor). Most of the other stuff has already been mentioned...if I think of anything else I'll post again!

I was wondering...are you ladies going to take any onsies for you baby while he/she is staying there? Or does the hospital provide them? I was packing my bag and didn't know if I should take extra clothes for her besides the outfit I was going to bring her home in..?

Samantha, a lot of hospitals like for the baby's to just be in their diaper and swaddled while they are there. Maybe it's so the nurses have a clear view of when they come in to check on them I guess. With our daughter I brought two different outfits. One up to 7 pounds and one newborn. She was only 6 pounds 8 ounces, so I was happy to have the smaller outfit.
