Hi, I had a question about something that happened to me tonight, and wondering if anyone can help. I'm 37 weeks, 5 days, and at about 5 today I started having cramps and pressure in my lower abdominal area. It continued to increase, so I called and was told to come in and get checked (about 9:30). I went in and was having steady contractions and was dialated 3 centimeters. They had me walk for an hour and get checked again. When she checked me again, I hadn't dialated anymore, but she said my contractions were still steady. The doctor said they could discharge me since after the walking for an hour I didn't dialate anymore. But she said since my contractions weren't letting up, I'd probably be back within the next day or two. I'm now just home and still having intense pain and pressure. What are the chances of staying like this for a while? Should I go into labor soon?

Why would they send you home, that is so stupid to me? If they know you'll be back in a day or two they should have just admitted you. I swear, I work in a hospital and I can honestly tell you sometimes nurses and doctors can be very lazy... so put it off until the next shift. If I were you I would go back to the hospital. Are your contractions still coming frequently and strong? If so go back.. good luck!

Hi crystal, when i went into labour with my son i was told to go home because it was braxton hicks, even after i told the midwife that it was contractions, not braxton hicks ( this was my 3rd child, so i knew what contractions felt like!)anyway, she still didnt believe me and sent me home telling me the same thing that i'll probably be back in a few days. I was back there in an hour or so, AND delivered my son. My labour was only 2 1/2 hours. As Tamisha said, if contractions are still coming frequently go back, you dont want to have your baby at home, or in the car on the way!goodluck!

My intense cramping and contracations have been going on for a few days now. I am almost as far along as you, not quite. With my 2nd baby I walked for 2 hrs before the pain was so bad, I just couldn't walk anymore and I still was at a 3. They did admit me since I was 12 days over due and they would have sent me home, "but it's snowing today and the roads are slippery" Nice. What I have learned is that you have to be your own advocate. Don't be afraid to speak up and don't be embara__sed about going to the hospital again and again. Trust your instint. You know your body best, but it could be a day or two more or this afternoon! Good luck, sorry for the dissapointment.

Thank you guys for all your help. I just woke up and I still have the same pain and pressure. Luckily I have a doctors appt. this morning and I'll have him check me to see if I've progressed since last night. If I haven't this is going to be such a let down :( It's like..."you're having the baby!!"..."oh wait...nevermind" lol. We'll see what happens this morning and I'll let you guys know! Thanks again :)

Crystal! Good luck, I am happy you have an appt today! It's a holiday here and my dr.'s office is closed. I have to suffer with the same "oh you're having a baby, no wait" until tomorrow when I can call or go in! Lucky GIRL! Good luck. I will keep my fingers crossed for you. Let us know what they say.

I started having those type of symptoms on a friday and that day I was dialated 1 cm and thinned out 50%. Sunday I woke up and was determined I wasn't going to work on Monday so I cleaned my car and that night I had to keep going to the bathroom and indegestion really bad. And about 2:30 am my water broke. They say (not to be gross) s_x helps something in sperm stimulates contractions. So I was told. Good Luck!! I know you're ready.

Ok, just got back from my doc's appt....he said I'm 3 cm dialated and 60% effaced! He gave me the option of stripping my membranes to get things started and I took him up on the offer :) He said it still could be another week, but he's thinking within the next 2 days!! Keep your fingers crossed for me and I'll let you know! Good luck to everyone :)

Yeah! you are lucky your doc stripped your membranes. Mine does not believe in it! I thought that maybe since I am in the same boat as you with all the cramping and contractions and when she checks me on Wed, if I am dilated she will agree to do that for me. They can't induce due to prior section, but I've had 1 vbac and am trying for another. She did say she doesn't not want me to go to 40 wks for baby size. Maybe she will do this for me. Cool that you are 3 cm!

Well...update....the day I had my membranes stripped I started having contractions that night and went in. My contractions were steady and I dialated to 4 cm. I stayed that night and the next morning my doc came in and I hadn't progressed. She gave me the option of going home and waiting until I progressed or inducing with pitocin. I chose to induce. At 9:00 am I started on pitocin, at 12 got my epidural and at 2:58 pm I had a healthy baby boy....6lbs. 3 oz. If anyone has any questions I love to share my experience!

Crystal thanks for the update. Congrats on your new little one. What was your due date? Curious about the induction though. Did it seems to intensify your contractions considerably? Was this your first? Just wondering, because you got your epi and less than three hours later delivered (how exciting!!). How are you feeling? What is your little man's name? Well, have a great day.

Thank you so much! I actually had two due dates...Feb 1 and Feb 5. The hospital went by Feb 5. This was my first baby so I'm not sure if the contractions were worse than normal or not. The doctor told me they would be, but I didn't have anything to compare them to. lol I actually feel great! The first week was rough because I had a second degree tear and it hurt a little to walk around...but it wasn't that bad. And we named him Jaxon Bryce :) Also, everyone was shocked I progressed so quickly! I went from 5-10 cm in 2 hrs. The whole experience was not as bad as I thought it would be (the pain). Good Luck :)

Yeh, I have two due dates as well. January 30th and Feb 7th. The doctors are going by the January 30th due date, so that means I only have 3 more days to go, RIGHT??? Well, at the very worst they will induce on the 6th or so, but I am keeping my fingers crossed that I can avoid the induction. Thanks for the update. Best wishes to you and your little one.
