I know this sounds dumb b/c you would think I would know this but I am 38wks w/ my 2nd child ... do you have to lose your plug to be in labor??
no, you don't. :) Not all women lose it...same with your water breaking before labor. Only about 10% actually have their water breaking before labor starts. But good luck with the labor thing - but seems that a lot of people do lose their plug and labor starts fairly soon.

LOL I have NO idea... but I wanna let you know its not a dumb question.. I was sort of thinking the same thing.. Im 3cm dilated and 60% effaced and still havent lost my plug.. I figured you would lose it when you started to dilate because things are getting bigger... *shrug* I dont know. I hope you get an answer, its not a silly question though :)

I think it's a great question because I read somewhere that the bloody show is different than losing your plug ?? is that true I thought it was the same.....

cors1wfe.. I tried googleing it and Im getting all kinds of mixed answers. now Im all confused lol. at my last appointment my doctor asked me if and lost my plug then she asked if I had any bloody show.. so I a__sume its two different things.. *shuirg* I dont know LOL...

Okay.. so from what Im getting from random web sites bloody show is just what they call it if there is blood in your mucus plug... they are not the same thing but they really arent different either. you can lose your plug with out having a bloody show or you can lose you plug and if there is blood in it its called bloody show. does that makes sense?? It makes sense to me LOL but Im not sure Im explaining it right. anyway, we got a bit off topic, KIM.. I think fefer answered your question you CAN be in labor with out losing your plug.. I guess.

some women don't lose their plug until right before the baby comes out, and some lose it and notice it, and they can even lose it early and it can regenerate itself 2 or 3 times! Also you may lose it in small bits and not even notice it....or it may slip out in the shower or while you're on the toilet and you won't see it. Lol.... I mentioned it to my husband and told him what it was and he requested I never use the words Mucous Plug again. He got grossed out. LMAO!!!!

yeah- its HILARIOUS...I think the idea of a glob of mucous up there is jsut horrifying to them. Hes not even going to watch when the baby comes out...lol... I don't even think I'm going to. HAHAHAH! Heather, my DH always makes wack comments about the uterus and always refers to his and his fallopian tubes. He think hes so funny. What a dork!

hey ladies - with my dd I lost my plug and there was some pink in it - about 2 weeks before I was induced. So technically I guess you don't have to lose it to be in labor. :) And it will regenerate - blah. Too funny about your men not liking all the preggo terminology. :) they are so goofy.

Thank you all so much for your input I feel so much better.. I asked my mid wife about it and she said that NO you do not have to lose your plug to be in labor... and that some women lose their plug and never know or you can lose it and it rebuilds itself... an update on myself I am 2cm and 70% my due date is the 20th but unless she comes on her own they are going to induce me on the 18th!! Wish me luck I am a little nervous!

Kimberly don't be nervous - your cervix is favorable for induction so is mine I am 37 weeks and I am 2cm dilated and 50% effaced my induction date is the 25th of this month! I am so excited my parents are on their way out from Alabama now in case she decides to come on her own...LOL...Good luck!
