Period Cramps And Freaking Out

I think I'm freaking myself out so need some advice. I'm 38.5 weeks and so all of a sudden I'm freaking out that something is wrong with the baby - probably just my anxiety about it coming out but anyway. Since Monday night I've had pretty constant period type cramps - they actually started on Friday but were very faint and would go away for hours, but since Monday night they've been a lot stronger and are more constant. Does anyone know what this means? As of Monday I was 1cm dilated with a soft cervix, and my show has been coming out in bits since Friday. I've had loose bowel movements, and I feel as if my baby isn't moving as much as usual which is also why I'm probably freaking out. Any help would be appreciated.

Sounds like BH contractions to me thats what i felt for quite a while i just had my baby 3 weeks ago so i am quite aware of those cramping like feelings. I also had constant NSTs (non stress tests) to monitor the babies heart rate and my contractions for about a month before my c-section i was a high risk pregnancy and when i got that cramping it was always a__sociated with contractions. Also the loose bowel movements sounds early labor related as well. But if the baby isnt moving as much contact the OB maybe they might want you to go to L&D do the stress test to see how the baby is doing. I had my son at 38 weeks scheduled c-section. good luck to you.

Sounds like early labour to me. Try walking and/or having s_x to speed things along. Babies move less when labour starts. L&D will do a non-stress test if you go in but you can also do it at home before, if you are not sure you want to go in yet. Just drink some really cold orange juice and after about 20-30 mins lay down and count movements. Minimum of 10 movements in 1 hour is what you are looking for. Anything less and you might want to go get checked.

Could be in labour. 38 weeks is counted as full term so ask your doc. GL

I spoke to my midwife. She said that the period pains are a good sign that things are moving along, especially as I've had more of 'the show'. However, I keep getting disappointed as nothing actually happens! Sometimes I feel okay and patient about it and other times I feel totally depressed and frustrated that I'm still pregnant. I'm not even at my due date but my ob is going away next week and I really want him to be the one to deliver my baby. I'm also just so over being pregnant and uncomfortable. I really hope it comes soon!!
