i am 39 weeks and next week June 5 is my due date. the last time i went to the dr.'s was on the 12th and the dr said i wasn't dropped or not even dilated yet and i was almost 37 weeks. i am going to see her on the 31st. and wondering if im not dropping, i can still dilate and be in labor?? or i have to be dropped in order to be in labor? idk im really confused. i tried walking and have s_x. not much helped. but i can't stand the back pains, and my legs are totally loose that i can't walk and it hurts at the same time, i dont know why?
and im wondering if i am dilating??? because lately i feel some tightness under my belly and around for 2 minutes. and they are randomly apart for maybe 10 min, 30 min. or an hour. not sure. but yeah i just need some feedback or some info. thanks! =]

Hi Catherine, I am currently 40 wks and 4 days and did not start dilating until I was 38 wks. If this is your first dont worry about going over your due date. It happens. It stinks but if your doc thinks you can go they will let you go past. When is your next appointment? I hope you dont go past so good luck. Oh I have tried everything too. S_x, walking, primrose oil everything. I am still prob a half a centimeter.

Catherine im 34 weeks & ive been dilated for about 4 weeks now (on n off; i go from 0cms-1 1/2 cms;; up & down) just cuz your not dilated yet doesn't mean labor isn't near but it doesn't mean that it is either; every woman is different. i dropped last weekend ( & u can tell majorly; you will know when u drop your belly will look smaller (sometimes i guess lol) & you will feel alot of lower pressure on ur pelvic where it hurts and is painful) ---s_x helps (usually only if your dilated just a bit because the s____n helps make the cervix contract!!!) good luck n be careful.

Catherine- I can't say that this is going to make you feel that great but with my first delivery (my son is 12 mo now) I went into labor at 3cm- in 2 hours I was at 10cm but I didn't drop there for I had to push (not actual HARD pushing) for 2 hours to get him to drop and another 2 hours to get him out...this isn't typical so don't worry and HONESTLY it was much harder on those around me than me...I felt great the whole time! Good luck! I am quite sure this won't happen to you...I just wanted you to know you can go into labor without dropping!

With my first pregnancy I wasn't dilated at 39w3d. My ds had dropped though and I was 70% effaced. I ended up going into labour at 39w6d. Just wanted to let you know that you don't need to be previously dilated to go into labour. What you are experiencing are Braxton Hicks contractions and its your body's way of preparing for labour. Sometimes they can cause dilation but not always. I am due with my 2nd ds on the 4th June. Congrats!
