BOYFRIEND IS A TWIN

my boyfriend is a twin. He has a twin sister. His dad is a twin - has a twin brother. I have no twin history in my family line. Did an us last week at 7 and clearly showed twins. I keep hearing that men do not determine if you get twins or not even if it is in their family. Can this really be a coincidence that both him and his dad are twins and now i have twins?

Pure coincidence. Each man shoots out millions and millions of sperm. Everytime. Yet you don't get millions of babies. It's the woman's ovulation that determines if twins are possible. Ovulate 2 eggs and you may end up with twins. Ovulate 1 egg and you only get 1 baby, no matter if the man has twins in the family. The man cannot make you ovulate 2 eggs. Only a strange coincidence.

actually it is possible.....you can have twins from one egg...hence identical twins.

of course identical twins are possible. But if you read SHIKO's post she is clearly talking about fraternal twins. Her boyfriend's twin is a girl. Besides, identical twins are not heriditary on either side, just a pleasant surprise. - yetanothertripletmom

Identical twins - product of nature not hereditary - fraternal twins - hereditary, but determined by mommy. Dad produces millions or sperm, but only mom can release more than one egg.

I'm sorry but the ability to have identical twins do not run in a family. Ask any doctor.

you can ask any docter what you please but I'm telling you fact now the fact is they do not know why identical twins happen but they do and there reason is"just a fluke" in another words "we don't know"

Id twins CAN run in families but the Dr. don't know why. I have 4 sets in the last 4 generations. There is some info out there that the male can carry an enzyme that causes the egg to split BUT...the reason it isn't more prevalent is the woman's egg has to be conducive to the split and most aren't. For the general population id twins IS a fluke but some same percentage of families have several sets.

Hm. My identical twin sister and I came out of nowhere. That said, my best friends is an identical twin, and so is her dad. I used to work for a guy who was an identical twin, and so was his wife. They had identical twin sons. I would guess that there is definitely some way for it to be genetic but that doctors just don't understand how yet. Remember, medicine is very, very far from a precision science.
