This is my very first time becoming pregnant and I am 18 years old. I start college next week, and I just went to my first doctor's visit yesterday. He did an internal probe scan to determine how far along I was, and to everyone's surprise discovered that I am pregnant with twins. The only odd thing is that the only twins in my family are pretty distant and not immediate. What are the odds of becoming pregnant for the first time with twins with barely any family history of twins?

I haven't officailly crunched any numbers but Twins obvioulsy run in your family but the trait has not expressed itself very often...until now. The tendency runs in my family as well, also distantly, and we easily became pregnant with our twins two years ago. Like you, it was my first pregnancy. If you are a woman with any family history of multiples.... you have higher odds of hitting the jackpot! For what it's worth, it is a jackpot worth winning... my twins are a joy and if I could do it again I would.
