My Question is this: My husband has twins on both sides of his family. I have none..... can the twin gene be passed down through him for us to have twins?

Nope, it runs on the mother's side - meaning you (fraternal that is, identicals are just a natureal fluke).

Hi guys,
I asked my doctor about this, as he suspects I may be carrying twins, my husband is an identical twin which he said puts us at no higher risk of conceiving twins than anyone else as it's luck of the draw. Your chances are high to have twins when there are fraternal twins in your family!!

Thanks Corona! I think that those of us (you included) who have had to go through so much of this have done a lot of research and don't mind sharing what we've learned.

Identical twins are not considered to be hereditary. Only fraternal.

corona,
New research is being discovered that some men carry an enzyme that can cause the egg to split. Check out the link.
http://www.twinslist.org/idfaq.htm
but also the woman's egg can split for other reasons, so Ashley IS correct that id twinning can come from either side. Right now they are saying it isn't genetic becasue they can't find the science to support it but some family's have several sets....mine has 5 in the last 4 generations. For me it WAS genetic.
