Hi, i was just wondering of what my and my fiances chances of having twins are. This isnt anythign thats going to happen any time soon though as we're very young. Im just looking for info on people who have had twins when ti runs in the family. It skips a generation in his and doesnt at all run in mine. But his sister and 2 cousins have children and none are twins. I was just wondering if it ALWAYS happens when it runs in the family. Thanks

From what I've read, your partner's family history of twins cannot affect your chances together because twins(fraternal) are a result of the woman releasing more than one egg during a cycle. However, he can pa__s down the hyperovulation to any daughters you may conceive, increasing their chances to bare twins. I have no family history of twins that I have been able to find so far, and although both my babies are in separate sacs, the doctors say that they could still be identical...so, anyone has a chance a to have twins -- some people are just more prone to it I suppose.

Thanks for the info amanda and congrats on twins! Did you want them or was it just a fluke? Identical is one egg 2 sperm and fraternal is 2 eggs 2 sperm right? Im always confused on that. Twins unfortunantly doesnt run on my side fo the family. The only case we have is a cousin of mine who was on birthcontrole and ended up with twins. Oh well, if its meant to happen it will.

Hi -- this is my first pregnancy, it was totally unplanned -- I didn't even find out I was pregnant until I was already 4 months along -- I thought my period had stopped from working too much and thought maybe there was something wrong with my uterus. It was quite a shock when I found out I was not only pregnant -- but with two -- no wonder I had been feeling so bad for months. Identical is when one egg is fertilized by one sperm -- then divides into two zygotes. Fraternal is when two separate eggs are fertilized.

It doesn't matter if everyone on his side is a twin, including him. YOU have to have it in YOUR family background in order to conceive twins. Or you have to be on fertility drugs/herbs. It is how the eggs respond that determines wether you will have multiples.. either you have more eggs ready to be fertilized, or you have an egg that is ready/ able/ willing to split. Hope you get all the info you need!
