Genetic Predisposition To Twins And Heavy Menses

This is a question for all the gals who've had twins/multiples naturally and/or have a genetic predisposition. I haven't attempted to get pregnant yet (still single) but my dad is a fraternal twin, anyways I've always had heavy menses. To the women who have had multiples naturally, did you have heavy menses at times (not every month but sometimes) and does anyone know if a predisposition to releasing multiple eggs causes the uterine lining to be thicker those months etc? Just wondering cause that would go a long ways to explaining things and would also make heavy periods more endurable if I had an idea that it might one day mean twins! Is this complete bunk or is there some truth to it?

i thought fraternal twins ran through the maternal (your mums) side. anyone correct me if im wrong?

oh and identical are like a 1 in 250 chance. so my twins were a fluke of nature :P

I was always confused by the maternal/paternal question for twins. Twins run on my father's side and I ended up with them. When they say twins run on the maternal side they mean you as the mother of twins. It means that your husband or bf cannot make you have twins, but a hereditary link on your father's side can. And to answer your question, I have always had light periods.

well it actually can be pa__sed from the fathers side, but it's like...the husband can't make twins. You know what I mean. Like I got twins from my dad's side...my g grandmother had 2 sets. But my brother couldn't make his wife have twins. And also my husband couldn't make me have twins if it was on his side.

Oh sorry, didn't see the post above mine. :) I also have always had very light periods...lasting only like 3 days.

When someone says "On the MOTHER's side" they mean the woman trying to conceive. Not necessarily the woman's *mom*. Does that make sense. I mean yes, the mans body produces the s_x gene XX or XY and the woman produces the number of follies based on what she inherriated from her parents and everyone else involved with the genetics she was made up of. hope this helps.

I have never heard that before. My periods are long (7 days) but not heavy. Heavy cycles can be an indicator of a fibroid. I have always heard the a very heavy cycle can be a sign of other issues such as endometriosis. I think the link of heavy cycle and twins is bunk.

I use to get very heavy periods and now I am pregnant with twins. No family history of twins. I took clomid for the first time and got pregnat so I think for me it was clomid who got me twins.
