Hi everyone, My hcg has been increasing alarmingly. Last week at 7 weeks it was 118000, now at 8 weeks it is 194000. I have been lucky enough to have regular scans, and these show that the foetus is normal. There was also another sack but the twin has not developed. I am worried sick about such high hcg levels. The doctors aren't really telling me anything apart from that the foetus looks healthy and that they will continue to monitor my hcg. I am so tired of waiting and wish someone could give me some answers. Do any of you have any ideas? This is my first pregnancy so you can imagine how anxious I am.

Some times with very high HCG levels, it can be a marker for a genetic anomally. For example, mine was SUPER high like that too. They checked me regularly and finally said we'll have to wait until the 20 week scan to tell you for sure. Well I had the triple screen at 18 weeks and it came back with a 1/24 chance that she had Down's Syndrome. AT my age it should have been 1/900. So that was why my HCG was so high. They checked at the 20 week scan and everything looked fine, they offered us a level II scan, and everything looked fine, but we chose NOT to do the amnio to know for sure. We were going to keep her no matter what. My ending was not ideal, but she appeared fine after birth. GL to you and sorry I didn't have better info for you.

Your HCG levels are probably high because of the second sac. VTS (vanishing twin syndrome) is very common in twin pregnancies. Just to put your mind at ease, I have seen numbers way higher than yours everything turned out fine. HCG levels are strange. Sometimes, high HCG levels can mean something (twins, molar, genetic problem, tubal...etc) but most times it doesn't and the end result is a healthy singleton. Here is a chart for a normal pregnancy for 7 to eight weeks. You are within the normal range. *******7 - 8 weeks LMP: 7, 650 - 229,000 mIU/ml ******** Good luck and keep us posted.
