Hi! Its Michelle- my name was already taken as username...what a shocker! LOL
Vicky- I'm so glad they found a membrane. I agree with Candice, i think all of us that have posted on this thread were misdiagnosed. I remember what a huge relief it was when they found the membrane with my boys!
cb- I don't know if you'll see this before you have your babies, but good luck! I'm so excited for you and glad you made it this far.
Candice, the girls sound like they are doing really well! How fun that they are rolling over and becoming so interactive.
My boys are 12 weeks old! They are still not so interactive yet...they have both smiled a few times, but nothing more interactive than that and staring into my eyes (which melts my heart). They are doing very well considering how early they were. They are gaining weight nicely- wish I could convert to the metrics for cb, but Spencer is 8lbs 4oz, and Corbin is 8lbs 15oz! A long way from the 3.6 and 3.7 they were!

Lily, i think most, if not all of us on this particular discussion have or are going to have monochorionoc/diamniotic twins. there are risks including ttts, but for me, after the many scares during pregnancy, i have 2 gorgeous identical twin boys. twin pregnancies are high risk to begin with, but that doesn't mean you won't have 2 healthy beautiful babies at the end of the journey. my advice to you would be to seek out a high risk perinatal physician and make sure you are monitored frequently with ultrasound and other tests. my boys were born 8 weeks early due to preterm labor, but they are home with me now and doing very well. as a matter of fact i'm holding one right now...since he's decided that 2am is a good time to be awake! lol. that's why i'm not using capital letters...i'm typing with one hand.
please keep us posted on your progress! 13 weeks? i was a nervous wreck then too... hang in there and good luck!

Michelle, right?
Thank you, for the prompt reply. When I got pregnant I was hoping I am carrying a girl (since I already have one great 6-year old man at home) , but now all I want is healthy babies boys, girls - doesn't matter.
Hope you'll get a chance to sleep.
I will keep you posted.
Lily.
P.S. When is it the "right time" to see a dividing membrane on the US?

well, in your case, if they diagnosed you as diamniotic, then they have seen a dividing membrane. if you were diagnosed monoamniotic, then i would say- don't get too stressed out (esaier said than done!) because i was misdiagnosed at 12 weeks and they didn't see the dividing membrane until 19 weeks or so. i have heard of some girls where they didn't find it until delivery... so its tricky.

Michelle, thanks for your time again, the doctor said "diamniotic" since he saw two amniotic sacs, he could not see the dividing membrane so early, he told me to come back in two weeks. I wonder if 2 weeks is enough... You said, in your case, the membrane could be seen only at approximately 19 weeks. That's a lot of time to wait and be worried. The thing is that they do not recommend to keep the pregnancy if the membrane cannot be seen. That's why I'm so worried - I don't want to stop this pregnancy, it's too important for me and my husband.

Hi guys.. today I sat here and read most of your postings.. I too was told I was having monoamniotic twins at first and then discovered the thin dividing membrane. I am having monochorionic/ diamniotic twin boys. I am 24 weeks along so far. Had about two weeks of contractions .. so I was at the hospital alot at night worried. They put me on some medication and I am fine now. I am huge and uncomfy.. but all well worth it. I hope to get to know all of you better.

Hi Tara,
I hope you're feeling better now. 24 weeks are already behind you. You should really take it easy and take good care of yourself. I also hope to get to know you better. Could you tell me please when they discovered the dividing membrane? All the best. Lily

tara, hi! hang in ther girl...you're getting there! i hope you have no more contractions until its time!
lily, i don't understand what your doc is looking for? if he sees 2 sacs, then that's your dividing membrane between the babies, right? maybe he's looking for 2 outer sacs? i didn't have one, that's how we knew they were identical. that is what the term monochorionic means. is that what he's watching for? i was never given termination as an option in my case. i was told the risks of the pregnancy and the high chances of chord accidents when the thought i was monoamniotic, but when they found the membrane my pregnancy was treated like any other twin pregnancy.

Hi Michelle, he saw one outer sac (monochorionic) and 2 inner sacs (diomniotic), but I was told that there should be a dividing membrane that could be seen only later (week 11...) and it's very crucial. Identical twins can be of different kinds the safest kind is Dichorionic and diamniotic, others can develop TTTS and other complications, see the link below :

I have no idea how the membrane looks like, but I got an impression that it is very crucial and doctors recommend termination when they don't find it....

You will be fine Lily.. I think its a liability issue with doctors .. they have to tell you the worst so you cant sue them later. The one thing I am so happy for now is that the morning sickness is gone.. Did any of you guys experience it? oh my god it was horrible .... and the exaustion.. altho i still feel some of that. My little guys feel like an octopus inside of me!!!! I love it tho.. Its so neat to feel my stomach move.. or to see it! I didnt feel movement really good til 20 weeks and it never stops now. lol

Hi Tara, thank you for your support.
As to the morning sickness, I'm suffering from morning - afternoon, evening, and night sickness (and vomitting). Everything that goes in - goes out very quickly. I haven't experienced such a horrible feeling during my first pregnancy. That's pretty unusual for me. I'm trying to drink much to prevent dehydration and other problems. I hope the situation will change in the future (in the near future will be a blessing). I'm only 9 weeks pregnant. L

sorry i know to some people this might sound like a dumb question but im 12weeks pregnant with twins and they are not sharing sacks so does that means they are not identical?

Hi, nenny,
As far as I understand, if they are not sharing the same chorionic (outer) sac - they are not identical. If they are sharing the chorionic sac, but are not sharing the same amniotic (inner) sac they are still identical but called monochorionic, diamniotic. This is my case. Good luck!
