Hi guys, I just had my first ultrasound at 5 weeks 4 days (my doc does them early) this Wednesday and they saw three gestational sacs, two with yolk sacs and one without (but it could have still formed afterwards this week). So my doctor confirmed that right now I'm pregnant with triplets. Assuming everything stays healthy, I'm not sure what to expect for this pregnancy vs. a singleton.

That's so great! I hope all goes well for you all 4! Were you on any fertility meds?

Pick up the book 'When You're Expecting Twins, Triplets or Quads" by Dr. Barbara Luke. It's got tons of great info for you and loads of good advice and recipes. It was like my pregnancy bible :) It's a great book1

We did IVF, and transferred three embryos, so that's why! I'll definitely look at Luke's book...sounds great!!

Gogo-That is great! I will be doing IVF soon. Can you tell me about your experience? Dos and don'ts? We are thinking about 3 transfers, also.

I had a great experience with IVF, after getting pregnant naturally and losing it in 12/05 my body went haywire and wouldn't ovulate. We did clomid, 3 IUIs and the first IVF worked for us. You really know so much more of what's going on. Dos and don'ts...don't stress :D Always take meds at the same time each night (the injections are really easy). I did acupuncture at the same time...the most crucial treatments are pre- and post- transfer. Helps you to build up a great uterine lining and I think it's relaxing also. I also did yoga--tried to keep as low-stress as possible. After the retrieval, rest for the remainder of the day and expect to actually feel it not in the first few days but 5-7 days after. After your transfer I'd take a couple days off and just take it easy (not total bed rest). Never lift anything heavy during that time either! And the biggest advice is after your transfer don't worry about symptoms, etc...the progesterone and bloating from the meds can mirror many pregnancy symptoms and you'll drive yourself nuts! When are you going to start? Are you on the birth control pills now? I swear it felt like it was taking forever to start but once we started the injections it went so fast!

Thanks. How are you coming along? Wow, 3 babies! Do you already have kids? How long does the whole process take? Do you plan to have more?

Lol, these are my first :D The whole IVF cycle takes about 1.5 months...21 days on birth control (with lupron towards the end), then you wait for AF, then after you get AF you start to take the injectables as well as the lupron. From that point on it's about 10 -15 days until egg retrieval and so that goes very fast! Then you either do a 3 day or 5 day transfer (if you don't have at least 6 eggs many places won't even hang on for the 5 day) and then you wait for 2 weeks past your retrieval date :D

So, I am waiting for Aunt Flo to come sometime this week. When she comes, I am told to call the fertility clinic and schedule a blood test (Day 3of my cyce)then a few days later a hysterosonography then a hysterosalpingogram then a post coital then endo biopsy, s____n a___lysis for hubby, finally we discuss. Did you go through this process before IVF. Please, share your experience. Also, did you get a 2nd opinion?

Ms Monet, that's the standard sequence if testing before any 'real' IF treatment. I did IUI and had all those tests done beforehand. I know it sounds like alot, but you'll do great, and you'll be on to treatment before you know it! GL!

Thanks, Freebird. Are any of them painful... The Biopsy, I heard is painful.

The biopsy was a little painful for me, it felt like intense cramping. I have heard others say the HSG is painful, it was not for me. My doc gave me a shot of lidocaine in my cervix and I had no pain.

How soon does IVF start after testing? Did you get preg? Single? Twins? Triplets? Did they put you to sleep afterwards?

i didn't have IVF, we did IUI. I had twins from our first round.

Hi there...the HSG was actually not painful for me either, I just took an extra strength Tylenol after for a bit of cramping. I never had the endo biopsy; I had gotten pregnant naturally but m/ced in 12/05 and I hadn't ovulated since then without meds since my hormones were messed up. I think the IVF starts on the next cycle after the testing. We also didn't need to do the s____n a___lysis since we had the numbers from the three IUIs. You really do find out so much more about your body on IVF/IUI :D I suppose that's one good thing about it. The other is that you are monitored much more closely. As for the egg retrieval during IVF, some docs put you out in "twilight" and some don't--I was out for mine, and it takes about 15-20 mins. It was very easy--you feel worse about 5-7 days after and if you get pregnant from the IVF it can make the hyperstimulation symptoms last. I still have follies on my ovaries from over a month ago, rofl!! My left ovary (the dominant one) is bigger too, but I don't feel as bloated and never severely hyperstimulated (which is when you start to fill up with fluid if you aren't monitored carefully).

Oh--one more thing...had a bit of a scare last night with brown spotting. Actually thought all was lost even though I wasn't cramping. I went in for an internal ultrasound this morning and everything's fine--saw THREE little heartbeats at 108, 109 and 110 beats per minute! Wow! They're measuring between 6 weeks 1 day and 6 weeks 2 days--technically I'm at 6 weeks 3 days (I know exactly since we did IVF...). Didn't see the heartbeat since I wanted to wait for DH, but I was told it was there :D
