Question For Moms Of Fraternal Twins

I just want to know if any moms of fraternal twins had implantation bleeding twice? I am 3 1/2 weeks pregnant with my third pregnancy and for the first time am worried about twins. I had what I took to be implantation bleeding on 5/27/06 (same as with my first two pregnancies). Then today, 5/30/06, I had the same thing again. Both times I had spotting with mucus, just like with my first two pregnancies. And I'm just wondering if anyone who had or is having fraternal twins had implantation bleeding twice, from each separate egg.

usually a double ovulation happens w/i a 24 hour period which makes implantation 3 days apart unlikely.

Thanks snugglybugglys, my first appt isn't until June 16th, so I have to wait. I already have two little ones, so I would be kind of relieved to find out it's not twins, but my husband is intrigued with the idea of having twins. And to twins4us, this isn't the first place I've looked for information. Several sites I looked at brought out that after fertilization, the egg can take 5-12 days to reach the uterus and implant and that the time each egg takes to travel from the fallopian tubes to the uterus is different. So the time between ovulation and implantation can be different between each egg.

I didn't have implantation bleeding with any of my pregnancies, but with the twins, mine always measured 3 days apart (suspected they implanted 3 days apart).

Thanks MelissaSLP. I also found some info that talked about some fraternal twins being days, even weeks apart. How many pregnancies have you had? I know that your chances of having twins goes up each pregnancy, and this is my third, so it's possible. I guess I'll just have to wait and see.

to blue: Measuring apart doesn't mean much. My girls are id twins and they measured up to a a week apart in one u/s and as close as 3 days...NEVER right on. Rarely are twins born the exact same weight. Please remember that u/s are estimates and can not always accurately date a pg w/i a day. I know when I conceived yet my girls always measure 1 full week ahead of that date. As far as it taking the egg to travel 5-12 days...you are right, but why would it take one egg 2 days longer when they were released w/i 24 hours of each other.

Maybe it would take longer because the second egg was fertilized with a slower spermy. :) Just a thought. I don't know. But I have heard of that though, about implantation occuring two seperate times. In fact someone that my husband was friends with in high school, his mother got pregnant with fraternal twins 3 months later than the other one. The second twin had to be removed, for the health of baby A, but it's possible. If it can happen that far apart why couldn't it happen a few days. The sperm that carries the female factor is said to be slower than the male. (I read this info on fertilityfriend.com).

I've concieved 3 x's. My first is 3 yrs old and I had a m/c 6 weeks before the twins were concieved. They are now 8 mo. old. So, 3 pregnancies and 3 children, but 1 m/c. Good luck!!!!

Thanks everyone for the great info and stories. Gives me a lot to think about. I know the only sure way to tell is by u/s, but it is interesting to hear others' experiences and compare for fun. Unfortunately, I will just have to wait. Because I'm not in a high risk catergory for pregnancy I won't get an u/s until about 20 weeks, unless I measure large for date earlier than that. So I will just have to wait and see. Keep telling me your stories, though. It's great to get to hear from other moms out there! :D

twins4us, I found some information you should look at before saying that a double ovulation usually happens w/i 24 hours. It's under superfetation and the web address is wwww.nomotc.org/library/twinning_facts.html. The site says that double ovulation can take place as much as 24 DAYS apart. Thanks again for everyones posts!

My wife found out she was pregnant after we booked a month long trip to Europe. She was sick the entire trip. On two separate occasions there were occurrences of bleeding which, we later discovered is called spotting. The first time was in Paris the second was when we were in Geneva.
You can imagine how scared we were since, prior to leave our doctor said any bleeding get to a hospital right away. We didn’t know what to do and decided to just wait. The last thing we wanted was to go to a hospital in France.
Only after returning home did we realize we were having fraternal twins. Apparently, the bleeding was nothing to worry about. We still have to confirm all is fine in yet another ultrasound which is happening tomorrow.

I am very familiar with the NOMOTC sites as I am a member.
The NOMOTC site lists superfetation under UNUSUAL types of twinning ie rare...they state "It is quite an unusual event"
I stand by my statement " double ovulation usually happens w/i 24 hours" as that is the norm. Your site doesn't disprove me, in fact in actually supports me. Usually is defined as the habit or the norm. I have DONE my research, you should do yours.

trippedup_dad, congrats on the twins! I can imagine how scary it would be for you in another country. I hope that everything is okay and progresses well. twins4us, thanks for all your input. I wasn't trying to say that superfetation was common, I was just bringing out that is does happen. Why is that so many women (and some men) come on this site looking for support and advice, but get a lot of negative and argumentative responses? I don't want an argument with anyone. My question was simply to hear what moms of FRATERNAL twins had experienced. So, thanks to all of you.
