Things To Pack For Hospital Stay

I'm usually a lurker, but I thought I'd share what I brought and what I wish I brought. :) I brought chapstick, mint candies to suck on during labor, my own pillow, socks, baby books, hair ties, Granny panties, nursing bras and a nursing pillow (if you plan to nurse), nursing gown w/ robe. I wish I would have brought my own pads b/c the pp is not kidding when she said they are like 5feet long. They were so uncomfortable!

As for the babies...I brought outfits to wear home (NB or preemie size), baby tshirts (my hosp. didnt provide them), baby socks, swaddle blankets were lifesavers for us, NUK pacifiers, extra baby hats, and heavy blankets for the car seats if it's chilly outside. The two things that I forgot to bring were mittens and nail clippers. Supposedly my hospital doesn't use nail clippers so my babies' nails couldnt be clipped until we got home and they scratched their poor faces all up. So, that's why I suggest bringing mittens. The hospital provided the diapers and wipes...and even gave us plenty to take home w/ us.

Okay ladies! It's time to update this list. Once again I need your help. As many of you know, I have been on bedrest for 5wks now. I hope to make it to this Thurs as I will then be at 30wks. I have nurses coming to see me & I was told today that it is time to pack my bag. The hospital here will keep the babies until 35wks no matter how well they are doing. So give me your lists ladies! It's time to have my twins!!

I am in the U.K so things work a bit differently over here- hospitals will provide a first nappy, and a little cotton wool but that's it (not that newborns get through a load of nappies anyway). I was warned my hospital had a severe shortage of pillows, so I took my big V pillow. It was great, I used it in labour, and for b___stfeeding and sleeping afterwards. Take magazines. I went through at least 3 during my induction. Make up is good too- by the 2nd day after the babies were born I wanted to look a bit more presentable. I think people have already said slippers and dressing gown/bath robe.....umm...address book so you/your man can call the relatives...change for the phone....can't think of any more that haven't already been said!X

good luck Corona!!! All the ideas are great here are a few more - if you have a c-section ask for an abdominal binder. It did wonders for me both w/ease in getting out of bed, as well as helping to get the belly down. Maybe a little bottle of your favorite perfume (sometimes the hospital room air gets a little stale). Your own pillow - I found the ones at the hospital super uncomfortable!!! LOts of loose change & maybe a few singles (for vending machines and/or tv rental!)

I took an outfit in pink and blue (just in case the u/s was wrong) and made sure they were what my daughter would want in the future for her hospital pics. I took clothes for me just about 2-3 sizes larger than my pre-pg size and stretchy. Also camera and camcorder and my iPod to listen to. I took an empty duffle bag to bring home baby gifts that acc_mulate during the stay. I brought the baby book to write in and thank you cards to fill out and address to everyone for the gifts from my shower. I also brought my birth announcements and filled those out, too. Flip flops are the perfect after-birth shoes, especially cheap ones you can throw away later. I brought my newborn sling since I was too tired to carry her around all day and afraid of dropping her. I brought lots of snacks and drinks since the hospital only fed us at meal times. I brought a hemmorhoid pillow which was a life saver as my bottom was VERY sore. A list of ppl to contact after the birth with numbers is very helpful. Mommy-brain kicks in immediately after birth and you won't be able to remember your great-aunts number for the life of you. Hair ties for those of you with long hair. Don't take jewelry as it is easily lost or stolen. Don't forget your carseat(s). Also receiving blankets and socks and scratch mits and baby hats. Make sure you bring different size outfits too. I luckily brought a 0-3 month outfit and a 3-6 month outfit because my daughter was a whopper at 8lbs. 10 oz. If you have multiples on the way I'd recommend preemie and 0-3 month sized outfits just in case. Of course, all your hygiene stuff. Also, while you're in the hospital stock up on as many as you can of those little premade bottles that you just put a nipple on. These are great for the first few days home. Also make sure you have your insurance card and identification and what not. I know it sounds like a lot of stuff but I only took in a backpack and a diaper bag and I came out with much more!!!! If I think of anything else I'll let you know... LOL... Best wishes.

It is like a 9 inch wide piece of elastic w/velcro that is often used after abdominal surgeries. I found that it supported me and helped me get out of bed easier w/out straining my stomach muscles too much.

Ahh good to know tripletmom thanks! I never heard of one before. I wish I would have, as this is going to be my 4th c-section.

No prob. I first used the binder when I was 16 & had surgery to remove a HUGE cyst from my ovary (basically a C-section incision because it was like the size of a honeydew melon). The binder was my lifesaver and requested it for both of my C-sections for my kids.

Just thought that this was an important post and should be bumped to the top.

I didn't have a multiple pregnancy, but I have a couple of things to add also. Definitely a change of clothes and toiletries for DH. Mine ended up living in my room with me for 6 days. I was in labor for 3 and had to have emergency c-section, so then was in for another 3 days. He used the shower in my room and slept there and everything. Also, unless you have an idea of how big your baby will be, I suggest bringing 2 diff. size outfits for baby to wear home. I only took one and it was 0-3 months. My ds was born and weighed 10lb. 4 oz. and couldn't even fit into it. So with all the new clothes we already had for him at home, hubby had to go to the gift shop to buy him something to wear. And make sure your bag has some room left in it after it's packed up. The hospital gave me a case of formula and a case of diapers to take home.
