Buying Prescription Medicine Online:
A Consumer Safety Guide
Buying your medicine online can be easy.
Just make sure you do it safely.
The Internet has changed the way we live, work and shop. The growth of the Internet has made it possible to compare prices and buy products without ever leaving home. But when it comes to buying medicine online, it is important to be very careful. Some websites sell medicine that may not be safe to use and could put your health at risk.
Some websites that sell medicine:
aren’t U.S. state-licensed pharmacies or aren’t pharmacies at all
may give a diagnosis that is not correct and sell medicine that is not right for you or your condition
won’t protect your personal information
Some medicines sold online:
are fake (counterfeit or “copycat” medicines)
are too strong or too weak
have dangerous ingredients
have expired (are out-of-date)
aren’t FDA-approved (haven't been checked for safety and effectiveness)
aren’t made using safe standards
aren’t safe to use with other medicine or products you use
aren’t labeled, stored, or shipped correctly
MEET AND TALK WITH YOUR DOCTOR
Talk with your doctor and have a physical exam before you get any new medicine for the first time.
Use ONLY medicine that has been prescribed by your doctor or another trusted professional who is licensed in the U.S. to write prescriptions for medicine.
Ask your doctor if there are any special steps you need to take to fill your prescription.
These tips will help protect you if you buy medicines online:
KNOW YOUR SOURCE to make sure it’s safe
Make sure a website is a state-licensed pharmacy that is located in the United States. Pharmacies and pharmacists in the United States are licensed by a state's board of pharmacy. Your state board of pharmacy can tell you if a website is a state-licensed pharmacy, is in good standing, and is located in the United States. Find a list of state boards of pharmacy on the National a__sociation of Boards of Pharmacy (NABP) website at .nabp.info.
The NABP is a professional a__sociation of the state boards of pharmacy. It has a program to help you find some of the pharmacies that are licensed to sell medicine online. Internet websites that display the seal of this program have been checked to make sure they meet state and federal rules. For more on this program and a list of pharmacies that display the Verified Internet Pharmacy Practice Sites™ Seal, (VIPPS® Seal), go to .vipps.info.
Look for websites with practices that protect you
A safe website should:
be located in the United States and licensed by the state board of pharmacy where the website is operating (check .nabp.info for a list of state boards of pharmacy)
have a licensed pharmacist to answer your questions
require a prescription from your doctor or other health care professional who is licensed in the United States to write prescriptions for medicine
have a way for you to talk to a person if you have problems
BE SURE YOUR PRIVACY IS PROTECTED
Look for privacy and security policies that are easy-to-find and easy-to-understand.
Don’t give any personal information (such as social security number, credit card, or medical or health history), unless you are sure the website will keep your information safe and private.
Make sure that the site will not sell your information, unless you agree.
PROTECT YOURSELF AND OTHERS
Report websites you are not sure of, or if you have complaints about a site.
Go to fda.gov/buyonline and click on “Notify FDA about problem websites.”
Buying your medicine online can be easy. Just make sure you do it safely.

grow_up: As you noted, alot of people buy on line for every thing, and it is safer to have monitoring by a Dr, alot of women in here do have that.... I have been referred by professionals to these websites and and I have taken the meds myself... But just because I didn't have a bad reaction, doesn't mean some one else won't, so it is imporstant to know the risks. The thing is, even while taking the script from a licenced pharmacy in the US.... You still run a risk of having a bad reaction... There's risks in every thing foreign going into your body... But it is our body, and we are here to answer question of those who are taking the meds on line or perscribed so they can find out if there sympthoms are related to the med or not... We're here to support each other through what is a very difficult dicision, and we always encurage every one to research and consider before just jumping into it... It's a hard shoice to make, and all that we are, is support....

if i am misunderstanding these posts, please forgive my comments. but from what i'm reading, this is my opinion. durante: your comment holds no water. tish got her proverbial a__s handed to her. if you're going to throw her anything, throw her a bone cuz she was a dog. and that was a mighty strange comment about a banana. and if you don't like the idea of pregnancy, good bye and hope to never see you again, because you're in the wrong place messing with the wrong people who don't need that c___p. hope-31: before you type out a response, read a little of what is going on. the majority of women that buy clomid online do so because they were told by their RE's that they needed it but their insurance doesn't cover it, so they buy it online to keep from breaking the bank. jennifer_33106: for the people that take clomid just because they feel like a change and trying for twins, yes, it's sad. irish's doctor prescribed clomid because her periods weren't regular. surprise surprise, that's why they're prescribed for many women. i take them too, prescribed by my ob/gyn and paid for by my insurance. care to make a comment about that? didn't think so. do us all a favour and p__s off. we don't need this here. and how strange 2 people pop up at the same time to bring trouble to a baby board? possibly the same person? sad sad. i'm not exactly public friendly right now, so please leave if you don't have something helpful to say. i don't want to bring my foul mouth to these boards and i'm very protective of ladies in mine and similar situations. but if you have advice or positive comments, you are absolutely and warmly welcome here! now are you ladies ttc? on clomid? preggy? have babies? let us know!

durante baby: It's kewl.... jokes are fine, I don't mind. But some of the ladies on here really have this place as a last resort for support sense for some reason, and I know it's hard to understand, alot of people are very negative about what they're doing.....hope-31: Who said that we didn't have scripts? That your a__sumption.... Sorry you have nothing better to do then come on here and hara__s people and cluster the site. It's okay, and I'm sorry you're so bitter twards the individuals on this site. I wish you luck in your future pesuits....jennifer_33106 : I'm so glad you've never had a problem with infertility and not had insurance to cover the treatments, you have a blessed life then, but please refrain from putting down the women in here, and understand that most of the women are NOT on here to try to have multiples, or "abuse" clomid... Last time I checked, you can't get high off clomid, but you can get some wonderful hot flashes, less v____al fluids to dry out your love making, and even some nice migrains and ovulation cramps.... LOL Trust me, most women don't take clomid unless evey thing else has failed. I used herbal treatments for 1 1/2 years before starting clomid, which was perscribed by my OB.... I got it on line because it was cheeper and my insurance didn't cover the meds or treatment, so I'm taking it with minimal supervision... And yes, I guess I am a little bit of an experincee.... Not an "expert " as you claim that I claim. But I am pregnant right now... The things I did on my first round worked, and irregadless of weather or not any one agrees with the way I got my perscription, that's their own perogative.... Now if you ladies do not mind.... Us women have clomid to discuss and I do believe that you have other forums to post opinions in... Good luck!

Teddyfinch: That's what I'm talking about....LOL Facts could've saved them the time of writing... Maybe reading all the columns, right Teddy.... So how are you doing girl? What's your status now.... I'm getting off the computer sense it's 11:29pm here and I have day care kids showing up at 4am.... I'm completely whipped from this PG thing.... I hardly have nergy to do much of any thing, but thank god I was able to take naps this week end.... Hubby's been real supportive and protective... "what a trooper..." Even when I go through my head biting moments.LOL I do hope we hear more about BFPs! I really wanna hear people's stories... Good nite all!

irish: i'm 10dpo if the wonderful pains and pressure i felt on the 16th was me, in fact, ovulating. i have a lot of heartburn right now and i still cramp a little every day. my cp is high and squishy and i've gotten dizzy a couple of times. other than that, not much else lol. i need to take my temp tomorrow to see where it's at. i haven't been consistant, but i know 97.5 was pretty much my average as i got that for 4 or 5 days in a row before the o pains. i'm just waiting for either af to come or not come and me get a bfp (i hope!). oh and the mature ones up there terrorise the teen pregnancy forums. they drive off the poor girls that go there to ask actual questions. sad they have nothing better to do. and tish just can't get over you. she talks about you there too. nothing too much, probably out of fear that you'll read it lol. anyway, i hope we all have decent conversations here and that the moderators clear out their c___p on the other forums. whoo with the heartburn i have i'm spitting acid...almost literally lol.

the only thing that strokes you, is yourself. and you brought up irish on the teen boards, crying about how she said you left because you were wrong. sounds like you're the one obsessed ;-)

tish212: Trust me, we weren't talking about you... We had almost forgotten all about your posts untill some one came in here to idolise your simplicity... But trust me, from here on out, you will just be remembers as a bad investation of crabs that polluted out site once upon a time....Teddyfinch: All those sympthoms are still promising..... Definately let me know how the testing goes for you.....Dinks: I'm sooooo sorry to hear about the BFN and no AF.... You know, for a condition like that, they should be able to perscribe prometrium on top of the clomid to force your body to ovulate... Some women don't ovulate untill they get up to 200mg of clomid, but of course... I definately don't recommend booting streight to that, but the dr usually increases the dose 50mg every month.... Let me know if there's any thing we can do to help support you through this c___ppy time..... Ladies: Forget about theese girls... A wise person once told me that opinions are like a__s holes, every one's got one... So, we'll just continue on with our conversation. Their whole goal is to clog our site with negativity due to some spiritual belief that "God" doesn't approve or what ever... So, let them live their simple lives, controlled by their simple opinions, and let's start talking about baby making.... Took my beta test today, my OB sucks, so I'm researching a new OB.... Hopefully after this beta, we can scedual an ultrasound.... Cross fingers and know on wood for me!

dinks: they're from the teen pregnancy board. you can't miss them. most of the topics are childish comments and most of the comments they post to real questions are just as immature. one of them called a 15 year old a homewrecker because some old fart tricked her into thinking he would leave his wife for her. and the guy was in his 40s! that wasn't the comment she needed. she was like 12 weeks along with his baby. she needed to come here, but because of jennifer, she probably won't come back. i think a mod needs to go clear out their boards and get rid of the trouble makers. hormones or not, they have no reason to act that way on a public forum. irish: let us know how things are going! i'm still keeping everything crossed for you.

Teddyfinch: Thanks, and same for you.... I have an apointment for Dacember 4th to start seeing a different OB... Hopefully this guys takes things a little more seriously then the office I've been going through. I'm not cramping, just tugging from time to time, and I haven't bled at all, so these are all good signs that the baby souldn't be in danger... Statistics say that after a MC a woman has a 85% chance of carring full term, so hopefully I'm part of that 85%.... As for you, mannnnn, it feels like I'm going through the TWW... Truthfully, worring doesn't just stop once you get your BFP, then you worry for at least 12 weeks of weather or not you'll mc, and then after that, you worry about premature birth that can't help the beby, and then after that you get the wonderful woes of balancing this new life, there's always worry, but there's always pleasure too. My husband and I try to visualize the baby and plan how to announce this to his parents. Although I have two kids already by an x, this will be his first, and his parent's first, so It exciting.... We just want to make sure every thing is okay before we tell any one else.

irish: i know what you mean. i followed meg's post in the other forums and i was on pins and needles waiting lol. for me, though, i'll be happy even if af shows up because i'll know the clomid made me ovulate and that would be a start for me. my husband has always taught me to find the silver lining and dang it i'm gonna lol. i'll definitely keep you updated, though. i went to bed late last night but my mother called me this morning to pick my father up from work so i got a grand total of about 4 hours of sleep lol. i might crash here in a bit for another couple of hours but it's already so late. dh and i are ready for a baby, i'd say. we're not rich, but then again i've been told repeatedly that if you wait to have a baby until you can afford it, you'll never have one. and we're living pretty comfortably right now anyway. we live in an apartment, but we choose to. it's nice to tell the landlord a problem needs to be fixed and it doesn't cost extra. mat (dh) and i don't have any kids yet, and we sometimes talk about how we'd tell our parents. it would be hard because we want to tell them at the same time but his parents live in australia so we'd have to get them both on the phone at the same time i guess lol. and then after that i'll let my mother tell everyone. i'm not speaking to my aunts and uncles because when i had a renewal of vows with my hubby on our 1st anniversary (we got married in australia and were in the states for our 1 year so we did a ceremony so my family could be there) i sent out 60 invitations to family and friends, and the only people who showed up, other than mom, dad, sisters, mat and me, were his friends from work. none of my relatives could take the 30 seconds to call me and let me know they couldn't make it, so we sat there like idiots waiting for the family that never showed up. i was and still am p__sed because they all showed up to my big sisters wedding. so if they never know, i could care less lol. anyway, though, i'm so glad you're doing well. i'll keep praying for you and hopefully we'll be able to be partners in crime lol.
