this is my first pregnancy and I havent told anyone at work yet. I work in a busy London ICU and am worried about the risks to the pregnancy associated with the job ie moving and handling patients, changing dialysate filtrate bags, radiation exposure, being on my feet for 13 hrs, and night duties. I dont want to tell anyone till I've had my 1st scan at 14 wks. Any suggestions or info?

Just a suggestion you should tell your job that you are because you can put your new born at risk unknowingly. Many health professional get pregnant and have healthly kids. But their are to many risks. Like for example some that you mention especially radiation exposure can cause miscarriage. You job would be able to work with you. Its the law.

I would just be honest and tell people, in that way you are avoiding taking any risks. Nothing better than the truth and they should be happy for you.

I know this thread is a little old but maybe your still wondering. I too am a nurse and I told my company right away because as a nurse you are exposed to many things. Many of my pts have MRSA and VRE. I ended up having a m/c and my company was supportive because theyknew. best of luck.
