I'm a single mother of a 10 week old little girl, her father doesn't come around to see her much at all, he's seen her twice since she was born. I want to return to work but I'm afraid that I can't because my daughter cries constantly when I leave her with anybody. She's so used to it just being me that holds her and comforts her that when I ask my parents or my sister to watch her for an hour or two, she does nothing but cry until I pick her up and hold her and then she stops instantly, like I've flipped the switch off or something. Have any of you had this happen? If so, how did you deal with this. Thanks!

I have not had this happen, however I would think that over time your little girl will be ok with you leaving her. How often have you tried leaving her with your parents or sister? Is it frequent enough that she begins to understand the pattern (yes, even at 10 weeks old) that you will be back? Also, I have heard that if you leave one of your worn shirts (or some article of clothing) your scent gives the baby a comfort feeling...have you tried that? I wish you luck. My only experience is when I had to start leaving my daughter at day care (she was 8+ months old) and she would cry and scream (breaking my heart)...but always stopped within 10 minutes of me leaving! Good luck - ld

My son was the same. Even my husband couldn't calm him at first. Just give her some time. It's best not to push things like this. We just kept trying for very short periods of time every few days. When he was 3 1/2 months old he would go to his dad and a few weeks later the grandparents were accepted. It just took patience. I'm still the only one that can quiet him when he gets really upset, but that doesn't happen too often. I kind of like being needed that way. He's 7 months old now and things are going very smoothly for us. Hang in there.
