I was just wondering about the success stories for first time moms in this category. I keep hearing all the negative things that could happen such as birth defects. I'm in this age myself and longing to be a mom. So please if you were a late mom yourself I would like to hear you story.

My friend's mother had her at 40 and she is an only child. Her mom did not have any complications.

I turned 35 while pregnant (my first). I was always told I would never get pregnant, so once the initial shock was over I started focusing on enjoying this pregnancy. I am currently at 29 wks, and so far it has been a dream pregnancy, i.e. very little nausea, still very active (i jog almost daily), great complexion, 11 lbs weight gain (i was 5 ft 6 in, 120 lbs pre-preg), etc., etc. AFP testing and U/S results have shown the baby is at less risk than in a young mom in her 20's. I guess it differs for everyone, but I've just determined to keep on knocking on wood and counting my lucky stars. Everyone says I look great and should be pregnant all the time! Not sure I'll tempt the gods twice, though, but sure feel blessed at how good it's been so far.

Sasha-I had my son at age 41 and a currently pregnant at age 45. I think at an older age you are more confident.
Go for it!

Go for it! I'm 37 and my first baby is developing beautifully! (When you turn the statistics around, they look a lot better! So, when you read 1 in 100, say to yourself "99 in 100 are fine!") Life is full of risks, don't let your fears fling you into a big pile of regret!
