Blake has always been a frequent nurser. Now at 7.5 months he still nurses about 6-8 times per day. I have always wondered if he is just eating small amounts at a time but it is hard to know since he is usually nursing. Today I picked up a shift for the first time since he was born. I was away from him for 10 hours and pumped twice getting only a total of 8 ounces. While he was away he only ate about 12 ounces of br___t milk. The largest amount at once just over 4 ounces. He has a good growth pattern and is very happy and active so I am not too concerned...just curious. Does anyone else have a baby that eats such small amounts?

My dd is only almost 5 mnths and has never had a bottle so I'm not sure how much she is actually eating (but I know it's enough for sure). But I recall my mom and her cousin (who both b___stfed theirs babies for a long time-like 1-3 yrs.) saying " they just want a snack" or " they are thirsty for a drink " when they only want to nurse for a little bit.

This happened with my son when he was around 9 months old (although he was formula fed). He started to only take 4-5 ounces at a time, but was still getting plenty of nutrition from solids. I discussed this with my doctor who told me that due to my sons size (he was already 23 pounds at that point) I could start introducing cows milk to him and ween him off formula. By the time he was 10 months months, I had him off formula, and was giving him poly-vi-sol in his first milk bottle of the day. He continued to grow at a normal pace and today at 5 years old he is perfectly healthy and so smart it scares me sometimes. I'm going to b___stfeed this time, so I'll see if this happens again. My theory on it is that my son loved his fruits and veggies and meats so much that the taste of the formula wasn't good to him anymore. This kid wanted to EAT. Just check with the doctor before changing anything you are doing now. If your baby is healthy and happy I wouldn't worry.
