I've heard that br___tfeeding helps the mother lose the pregnancy weight faster, but how much slower does the weight come off if I formula feed? Does it take several weeks longer for the uterus to shrink? Thanks!

I gained 55 pounds when I was pregnant. I lost the first 40 in a month or two. After that my son is now 8 months and I'm still struggling to lose the last 10 pounds. I'm hoping once I stop I'll be able to lose it. I think this is typical but it's my first time so I have nothing to compare it to.

My kiddo is 7 weeks old and I have only lost like 30 of the 50+ I gained while pregnant so far. I think my uterus is probably back down to size, but I gotta get rid of the extra junk in my trunk now- LOL!

Christy, I can do better than that...lol...I gained exactly 75 pounds between conception and delivery - I lost 30 in the hospital, and that's it. I've been exclusively b___stfeeding for 4 months and am still 45 pounds heavier than when I got pregnant. My NY resolution is to lose 20 lbs.

Jamie- I was under the delusion that the weight would magically melt away with bf, but I think my body s hanging onto the extra pounds to aid in bf. It does not help that I have been not eating as well as I can either. :)

Yah, me too - I've always had a super high metabolism, so I could sit around the house and pig out on ice cream and McDonald's and not gain an ounce...HA! Those days are over!!!! LMAO

Oddly enough, I was just about to ask a similar question! Christy and Jamie, you've helped me out, because I am 37 weeks, planning to bf, and I wanted to know how realistic it was to think that bf-ing was going to magically melt the pounds off. Nothing in life is easy, so that just sounded too good to be true!

JAMIE I HEAR YA ON THE FAST METABOLISM GOING GOING GONE RIGHT OUT THE WINDOW. I COULD EAT WHATEVER I WANTED ESPECIALLY THOSE LITTLE DEBBIE SNACKS. I WOULDNT GAIN A THING. HA HA HA NOT NOW. I HAD MY SON ON NOV. 9TH, 2005. I WAS STARTING WEIGHT 130. AT THE HOSPIATAL BEFORE HAVING HIM I WEIGHED 165, IM NOW AT 145. I FORMULA FEED, AND ABOUT 1-2 A DAY BREASTFEED. PLUS I FRACTURED MY TAILBONE WHEN I WAS PUSHING, THEREFORE I CANT GO CRAZY EXERCISING. AND ITS DRIVING ME NUTS!!!! IF I COULD AT LEAST GET MY BUTT TO SHRINK A LITTLE ID BE HAPPY LOL

Ginny. I really think b___stfeeding helps at first but then all those xtra pounds you gained (not meaning you personally) will take awhile. It does shrink your uterus fast. It's a benefit to b___stfeed but not a fix all for those of us that ate for 2+.
After a month or so I remember my hubby saying-- at least you don't look pregnant anymore---just chubby. Thanks honey!!

Breastfeeding does help to take off the weight at first, but it isn't a majic pill. You have to eat well (no McDonald's) and get some exercise. I take a walk around the block with the stroller every chance I get. You do need to keep some extra weight for b___stfeeding, but I've only heald on to 5 extra pounds. I eat lots of fresh veggies for snacks and also snack on nuts. Don't worry too much. I think you can get a little too depressed over weight with the way our society looks at things. Just don't forget to take good care of yourself. You deserve it!

Jamie and MC- I could definitely eat a lot before the baby and not gain any weight. It is pretty amazing that my metabolism held out until I was 31! I think I will get back to my pre-pregnancy self eventually. I just need to start walking and eating better. The holidays have been tough this year, though- too much good food!
