How Long Will You Let Your Baby Sleep

How long will you let your baby sleep before waking her up to feed at night? My baby is 12 days old and I usually let her sleep 6 hours. We go for a weight check tomorrow, but I'm sure she's gaining. I think she would sleep all night if I would let her. I've heard that she will wake up if she's hungrary but I've also heard that babies that young don't really know when they're hungrary. Just wondering what others think/do. Thank you. PS I found this site by accident and I love it!!!!!!!

When my daughter was that young, I never let her sleep more than 5 hours...but, she had also lost more than 10% of her birthweight before we were released from the hospital. You're probably fine with 6 hours, but definately confirm that with your doctor. Congratulations on your little girl!

I was told by my pediatrician that you do not let the baby sleep for more that 3-4 hours. When my son was in the hospital the night before I was supposed to take him home, I let him continue to sleep. It turned out that he had low blood sugar and that he needed to go into the NICU and they would not let him go home until his blood surgar was controlled.

I let Jasmin sleep whatever she wanted and still do, i feed her in the night if she wants it but she wakes to tell me shes hungry, sometimes after 3 hours sometimes 7, my midwife said they will wake if hungry, she said mad to wake up a sleeping baby, jasmin is a good sleeper and very settled, but i had heard you shpouldnt let them go more than 4 hours??

I don't let Ben go longer than six hours, but it was more like 4-5 hours in the first 4 weeks as he would not wake on his own. He wakes on his own now between 4-6 hours. At 12 days, I wouldn't let her go more than 5 hours at night, making sure you make up for it in the day so that she gets at least 8 feedings a day. Congrats on your daughter!

I would not wait longer than 4, I wake mine every 2 or 3 hours. He's almost a month old.

I never set my alarm and he always woke me after 3-4 hours. After 6 weeks he started sleeping through the night and I did not wake him. He was 14 pounds at 8 weeks so I didn't think there'd be an issue. I think as long as they are gaining, eating enough in a 24 hour period, wetting/Bm's you are good to go on letting them sleep through the night. Most women aren't lucky enough to have a baby under 2 weeks sleep that long. What did the doctor say at the check up?

My midwife said its fine if she wont feed through the night. as long as she feeds during the day and wets and has bm which she does. so im not going to worry. MERRY XMAS!!

Update- My guy is now 7 weeks old and sleeping 7-8 hours a night. We make up for the missed night feeding during the day.

My daughter is now 7 days old. Last night she slept for a long stretch of time without a feeding. the pediatrician said that its fine to let her sleep as long as she wants throughout the night. She lost very little weight in the hospital and by 6 days old already gained her weight back. The dr. is not concerned with her intake and said that she will wake up if hungry at this point. We still TRY to wake her during the day every three hours, but sometimes when we wake her she flips out and wants no part of eating.
