How often is an 8 week old supposed to nurse? My little girl used to nurse for 15-20 minutes on each side for the first month. Then we found out she has refulx and was told by the pediatrician to only nurse her on one side at each feeding for 15-20 minutes. Well, we were doing that but she gradually started lessing her feeding times. Now she is only nursing for 5-10 minutes at each feeding. I can tell she is getting a lot because I can hear it. Also, I have overactive letdown. She has nearly doubled her weight so I'm not concerned about that. I am just curious how often she should be eating. My friend feeds her 4 month old ever 6 hours. My little one is nursing every 3-4, but I'm wondering if she could or should go longer between feedings. What do you guys think?

Oh my-a 4 month old feeding every 6 hrs. Is that b___stfeeding?? I have never heard of anything like that. At 8 weeks old it would be perfectly normal for an 8 week old to nurse less than every 2 hrs.
If your baby wants to go 3-4 hrs between feeding thats great. I also had problems w/ over active let-down and your are right by feeding only on one side at each feeding. If it gets really bad you may need to do block feeding. You can info about it at kellymom.com. They have good b___stfeeding advice.
