How Often At Night

How often are you ladies up nursing at night? My little one is 2 months and gets up every three hours like clock work. Will he start going longer periods w/o waking? Also when did you move baby to their own room?

Ben will be 10 weeks old on Monday. He has been sleeping 5-6 hours at night for a while now, although we had a week or so where he only slept 4 hours and refused to go back to sleep. I basically get up once between 4 and 5 AM to feed him. He also goes to be kind of late, like around 11 PM. He has been in his own room pretty much since day 1. It works out well for us.

I meant to say that he goes to BED kind of late, not be.

My son is 5 1/2 wks and has been in his own room since the start. He was getting up every 3-4 hours too until the past week or so, and now he'll go about 6 hrs, then start his 3 hr schedule again. Last night he actually went over 7 hrs!

Read the book Baby Wise. It is the miracle book.

I read Babywise and didn't think it offered concrete enough guidelines (e.g. how long to keep baby awake during wakeful periods, etc) I like "Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child" better because it offers various age-appropriate solutions for sleep and has a nice little section for bf mothers. I think the thing we have to remember is that babies will wake up at night to feed in the first 3-4 months and that is normal. Their digestive systems and brains, among other things, are very immature and still developing, so I don't think it is fair for parent to expect their babies to sleep through the night when they are still technically newborns. Just my two cents. . .

Emma is 14 wks old and still wakes about every 3-4 hours to nurse. She falls asleep in her crib next to my bed at night but when she wakes to eat I just bring her to bed with me and nurse her when she wakes up so I can get some sleep!

My daugher nused about every 3-4 hours until she was about 12 lbs. (I think a lot of it has to do with weight not age). She is now 5 months and 15 1/2 pounds and sleeps 9-10 hours stretches! My husband and I made a pact in the beginning and lied to people about how much she slept. We told everyone that she slept through the night from 11pm to 7am. It worked very well for us, as we were tired of everyone always asking and commenting. If we said she only slept 3-4 hours people would say oh, you have to give her a bottle, let her cry, read this book read that book. Well, we decided I would nurse her when she was hungry, no matter how often in the night, and now I am very glad for it. We moved her to her own room at 1 month and I would wake up and nurse her while resting on the couch if I was too tired to sit up. The back support of the couch was much more comfortable than a bed. I'd put her back in her crib when she fell asleep or sometimes we'd both end up asleep on the couch for a couple hours. I was afraid she'd never sleep through the night, or she'd be dependent on waking up and coming to the couch with me. Now at 5 months she sleeps through the night, wakes up and nurses around 6am then her dad is up with her while I get some time to myself before the day. Nursing on demand has worked well for us, as did the move out at 1 month. Good luck, your baby will hopefully sleep longer soon. Our best plan of action was to tell everyone who asked that she was sleeping through the night (even when she wasn't). It was so stressful to hear the question over and over!

I agree with Olivia..My husband and I got sick of that question. My son nursed on demand. He woke uop every 2-3 hours and sometimes would only sleep next to my b___st. He started sleeping longer stretches around 3 months..about 8 hrs. Now at 6 months, he sleeps very well through the night. Only wakes once and awhile for a little snack or if he is sick. But honestly, the first 8 weeks, I was so exhausting. I would fall alseep at 2am with him nursing while I sat in my chair. Sometimes I think they just want held. So do what you feel comfortable with..you now what is right or you and your baby...
