I love margaritas!! My hubby and I always have a bottle of tequila, some mix and salt around the house. I have been craving one my whole pregnancy! I have been very good though, not even a sip since I found out I was pregnant. I am due in 3 days and I can't get my mind off my first margarita! mmmm so yummy! Anyhow... I know I can't have one right away because I will be br___tfeeding. Once I have a good supply of my milk stored in the fridge will it be safe to have a drink one night? How long would a drink or two effect my supply? Please no negative comments, I am not a bad person and will not neglect my precious baby - i just want a drink or two :)

i'm right there with ya! baby will be a month old by my birthday and the blender is ready to go. lol. you can have a drink while your b___stfeeding. alcohol metabolizes out of your blood and b___stmilk. feed baby, have a drink, and in a few hours your all set to nurse again. DO have some expressed milk handy in case your little one decides to join the party, but don't worry. a responcible person can have an occasional drink and still nurse safely.

You know, my grandmother swears that every b___stfeeding woman should drink a beer every day. Says the calories and carbs from the hops help you keep up your milk supply. She's German, so, of course . . . I have never been much of a drinker at all (don't like the taste of any of it much), but I try to drink a few beers a week as my milk comes in. Never noticed any negative reaction from my kids. And I have had a number of friends drink beers when they felt that their milk supply was running short, and they swear the beer really helped kick it into gear. You know what? Have a margarita! (or a beer ;)

That is great to know. I will be looking forward to that first drink :) Not nearly as much as I am looking forward to holding my precious baby in my arms though!!

after drinking one alcoholic drink, the amount of alcohol in your b___stmilk is the same as what is in a non-alcoholic beer. totally safe for baby. you can have one or two drinks and still nurse.

Hey Jenn,
all my girlfriends have been telling me to pump and dump!! At least have some already pumped milk around and handy incase you want more than just one!! but also, pump and dump, that way you know that your baby isn't getting any of the alcohol left in your system! My husband has already called dibs on the dumped milk, he's weird!! But I have also heard good things about beer and b___stfeeding!! My mom drank Busch when she was b___stfeeding me and she sadly admitted that it helped my fussiness and allowed me to relax, and I've heard some doctors prescribe the same thing for a overly fussy baby! Have fun girl!!! You deserve it!!! I'm due in September and can't wait for a margarita and a huge Octoberfest in our wine country!!! I'll definiltey be pumping and dumping!
