Milk Donation

My doctor is of the opinion that I'll be a dairy cow when I have my baby - I'm only 30 weeks, but leaking like there's no tomorrow. I know that quite a few women are unable to br___tfeed, whether they're not producing enough milk on their own, or whatever. If I really do have so much extra, is there any way for me to donate it?

u know what???..... probably... but i dont know where you would go ....... maybe ask your doc, or if your only 30 weeks and you have ten more to go just store your milk in the freezer for your baby later on ....... thats what i would do. GOOD LUCK!!!!

Yes there are ways you can donate milk but not while you have achild of your own nursing. Look up milk banks. Also there is a lot of red tape that must be cleared.

Problem with looking up milk banks is that a) I don't even know where to start, and b) I'm in the U.S. Army, stationed in Germany. I don't speak German, and I KNOW the military doesn't have a way for me to donate it.

Yes, there is. Call the maternity ward where you will have the baby, and they will refer you to a local bank. That is so kind of you:)

Milk banks are rare. I think there are only 6 in the U.S.... Not sure about other countries.

I repeat...I'm in Germany, and do not speak German...is there an organization I can contact? I've already tried Red Cross.

Jamie, you don't have to be rude - people are trying to help you and K said she doesn't know about other countries. http://www.cdc.gov/b___stfeeding/compend-milkbanks.htm. give them a call or e mail to ask them about Germany.

this mentions b___stmilk banks in Germany on the chart in this link, but doesn't describe it like the other countries in the text... http://www.lalecheleague.org/llleaderweb/LV/LVAprMay00p22.html

Find one online! I contacted one after my daughter was born premature and I pumped while she was in the NICU. I have been very successfull with nursing her, but I had alot of milk in my freezer. I found a bank on the net. They sent me some paper work to fill out, and send back. It is all at no cost to me. They will pay to have it shipped, and they may require a blood test. Human milk saves lives, so it is worth trying to find a bank if you have more than you can use. Good Luck!!

I wouldn't like to think I was feeding my child someone elses b___st milk. It's all wrong.
