No, you cannot take pain pills. I suffer from migraines and have had to give up all my meds to b___stfeed. I was told any kind of pain meds I take goes straight to the baby. Also, when you leave the hospital they only give you a bottle of Tylenol. I am not sure what they give if you have a c-section. When I left I had a bottle of Tylenol, a bottle of some other over the counter acetaminophine and a bottle of stool softeners. I wish I could have had something stronger though!

I am not sure about that, Corissa. They kept offering me Darvocet at the hospital and they knew I was bf. I did not feel comfortable taking it, so I didn't. I think certain narcotics taken in low doses are ok, but that is up to the doc. I know that migraine meds are not considered safe to use for bf, though.

you will have to talk to your doctor about that. my doctor prescribed Motrin 600 mg for pain when i left the hospital. i wouldn't take anything stronger than what i was given, but there are some narcotics that are okay to take when b___stfeeding.

Doctor's and pharmacies have books that tell them what is okay and not okay to take while nursing. You just have to make sure the doc knows you're nursing and double check with the pharmasist that the meds are okay. I had to have surgery to have a cyst on my ovary removed when my daughter was 6 months old. It was okay to nurse her with the anastetic in my body and then tylonel 3 with codine for a few days afterwards.

I know 3 people who have recently had babies and are b___stfeeding. In all 3 cases they were offered percocet (even though the doc. knew they were bf). They asked and the doc. told them it is safe. They still turned them down bc they felt uncomforatable with it. Good Luck!

Yes you can take pain medication! I was prescribes T3's when I left the hospital and I am b___stfeeding. Just as long as you take the medicine in moderation!! Also, if you are not good with pain..warning, b___stfeeing might hurt at first! I am not good with pain either but I got through it cause I wanted to b___stfeed so bad! Tasia is 6 weeks now and it hasn't hurt since she was about 1.5weeks old! =)

I was prescribed motrin 800mg, and vicodin during my stay in the hospital and when I left. I did not have any problems wih my baby, and the doctor a__sured me that these were safe medications while BF. I felt a little guilty, so I tried to stop taking them the day I came home, but then I realized that I could not get out of bed to actually pick up the baby to feed him, so I finished all the meds...it's all in what you are comfortable with.

BRITTANY D., "BREASTFEEDER" . I FRACTURED MY TAILBONE GIVING BIRTH SO THEREFORE I NEEDED AND STILL NEED SOMETHING TO EASE THE PAIN. THEY OFFERED ME PERCOCET(SP) IN THE HOSPITAL AND MOTRIN. I CHOOSE THE MOTRIN AND I STILL TAKE IT WHEN I HAVE PAIN. YOU CAN JUST ASK YOUR DOCTOR.
