My daughter is 18 days old now. I have flat nipples and she does not latch properly so I have decided to pump exclusively. I pump every 2 to 4 hours for 20 minutes. I am only producing between 3 and 4 ounces out of each br___t. I pump each dry so I know I am pumping long enough. A week ago I was pumping 5 to 6 ounces out of each at each pumping but I know much of that has to do with my hormones being out of wack. My question is 3 to 4 ounces normal or is that low? Thanks so much for the advice!

Sounds about right for now. That's about all they eat if not less. You'll start producing more. I know they say to keep pumping even when you empty out for a few minutes so it ups your milk supply. That's all I could pump at that stage. Now at 5 wks I can get about 5 oz per side if I pump and don't let her b___stfeed.

I use an Evenflo battery/electric double pump ($50 at Target). Its a cheapy so I think I might ask Santa for an upgrade! Only pumping is okay. It allows everyone else the opportunity to feed her, and I get to take a short timeout just for me to pump. The only thing that would be nice is if I could feed her in the middle of the night and not wake up my dh with the loud pump! I also miss the special feeling of being able to directly provide for my daughter, but it makes me feel good to know I am providing something!
