hi!! i jus had my baby girl(1 week). ive been br___t feeding, but i have one inverted nipple thats really really hard to get out enough for her to latch on. so me and my dr think it would be best to just use a pump. i formula feed as well, but br___tfeed more. i would say about every 3rd bottle is formula. but, im not to sure on how many times a day to pump! how often milk comes in? how long it takes to come in after being emptied? i have started, and i get about 3 oz. total each time. will i get more eventually? might be stupid questions, but i am really curious!! thanks in advance!

The more you pump and feed, the more milk comes. Think of it as a "supply and demand" type of thing. Also, I have a hard time getting ANYTHING when I pump....It took me forever to get 3oz! So I don't even bother. I b___stfeed only.

if you are going to b___stfeed you should try to only b___stfeed because this is the time when you're milk comes in.also, I think a nipple shield could possibly help with inverted nipples. I know for me pumping is harder than actually b___stfeeding.

agreed. pumping is much harder and you get less milk that way. when babies nurse, they can get a lot more milk out of the b___st than a pump can. at least keep nursing on the good b___st.

I would drop the formula out since you are still building up your supply. The nipple shield can help with the inverted nipple as well. As for pumping, if you drop the formula, I would not worry about pumping and try to nurse a lot. If you really want to continue the formula and/or pump, then you should have someone else feed those formula bottles to your baby ao you can go pump at that time. Once you get your milk supply up and have some milk stored, maybe you can stop using the formula and have someone feed her the milk you've been expressing a couple times a day while you pump. Just a thought.

The shield helped with my latch on problem with flat nipples. After a few months he started latching on w/o it. I agree that pumping alone is a lot harder. I have to do it because I work and I hate it. Just my personal opinion. I also supplement with formula and it does lessen your milk supply. I believe pumping every 3-4 hours is good but you might want to do it more if you aren't getting enough milk for your little girl. You will gradually get more than 3 oz..
