I like my avent isis. It's manual. I use it several times a day because I had to go back to work.

ELECTRIC! Especially if you plan to go back to work and pump milk. I got a Medela Pump In Style used at a children's exchange store for $79.00. New they are over $200.00. Everyone I know recommended this brand and model. If you don't work and only want to pump for an occa__sional night out or to let dad feed her, a manual pump would work. I have one of those too and used it the first couple weeks after she was born and it helps when you get engorged cus the baby has a hard time latching on so I'd pump a few times to relieve the pressure so she could latch on better.

Ditto to everything Heidi said. I used my Medela Pump In Style at work for about 8-9 months - so quick and efficient. Mine also came with a little hand pump too - and like Heidi said, I used that to 'take the edge off' so my daughter could latch on better. If you have health insurance, call them. Some will help cover the cost. 4 years ago when my daughter was born, my insurance, Medica, covered 80% of my pump... now they don't cover them any more... dumb insurance! But it's worth checking into.

I agree with Kathryn. I love the avent isis. Its the best for me and its small noise free and easy to clean.

I have a friend that didnt use either.. she did this squeeze thing to her nipple and she got lots just by doing that. I could NEVER do that. I had a manual and I didnt like it. I like the types they have in the hospitals when I have another baby I will definately look into something like that.

You can always ask the hospital to rent you a couple and then you can see what works best for you. I know that many hospitals let you rent them. Just a thought.

i also like the avent isis. it's quiet, doesn't require electricity, very easy to clean and is very efficent. i can pump both b___st in about 10 min and get around 6oz. i have been pumping for 4 months at work and nobody even knows that i am doing so.

I use both the Avent Isis and the Medela Pump in Style. My sister had the Madela so I just purchased the replacement parts. I purchased it at the hospital so I don't know how much it cost. I wanted to just Steralize the parts but the lactation lady forced me into buying it. I never noticed it on any bill so I think she forgot to bill me? Anyway, I don't prefer the Avent Isis but it's good to have and pretty inexpensive. I bought it because we were driving over night and didn't want to have to worry about finding a place to pump. I now use it here and there when I don't feel like dragging out the electric pump. I seem to get more from the electric but everyone is different.

My Medela Pump in Style has a battery pack for traveling.

If you have any repetative work and/or sore wrists, the last thing you want to do is squeeze levers to pump your b___sts dry. Let alone take the time it takes to pump the b___sts dry. The electric pump can pump your b___sts dry within 5-10 minutes
