My fiancee and i are expecting our first in july next year and i am going to br___tfeed but i want to know which pump is better. A hand pump or an electric pump. The lady at the shop said an electric one hurts. Is this true?

Ka__s- IMHO, I would wait until after you have the baby to get the pump. You won't use it right away and you want to make sure that bf will work for you before you unload lots of money for an electric pump. However, if you want to select a pump for your registry, you need to determine how often you will be using your pump. If you are planning on going back to work FT after the baby is born, then get an electric. I hear the Medela PIS Advanced w/ 2 phase Expression is a good one. Pricey, but good.
It supposedly mimics the baby's sucking pattern to aid in better let-down. It is the one I have considered buying. (I have nt used an electric pump, so I can't say if it hurts not.) If you are only going to use the pump once in a while, a manual pump is fine. I have an Avent Isis and I like it a lot.
