Does anyone have any information on medication that is safe for anxiety, NOT DEPRESSION!!! The one medication that I have had success with in the past is ativan, but is not recommended for regular use while br___tfeeding. What about herbs, valerian, etc...thanks.

I was taking Paxil (20mg) for anxiety while bf-ing my son. Doctor, pharmacist and lactation consultant approved, for me. It works very well, but if you stop it, do so gradually. I recommend you talk to all three mentioned above about possible medications. Good luck.

Benzodiazepines are a definite long term no-no for b/f. I have no clue about herbs but I wish you the best.

Prozac (fluoxetine) has been shown to be safe during pregnancy. You should know that anxiety and depression are often treated with the same meds. I would NOT use Ativan at all. Alot of the antidepressants work on anxiety and actually have a longer effect (i.e. you're not taking a pill every few hours.. one a day is usually enough).

Lorie, why would you not use ativan at all. My doctor said it was o.k. every once in a while.
