How To Explain To An Almost 3 Year Old

I have a son who will be 3 when my daughter is born. I will of course nurse. Everyone, I'm sure, knows how inquistive a 3 year old can be and I'm just wondering if anyone has any advice on how to explain it to him? Thanks!

Just be honest and explain things to him on a level that he can understand. My daughter will also be 3 when my other baby is born. I've already begun to show my daughter how I will feed the baby, and how she was fed also. I use her baby doll to show her how I will hold the baby and where the baby will put his/her mouth. I told her that babies are too little to eat and don't have any teeth, so all they can eat is Mommy's milk, because the cow milk that she drinks is for big girls and boys, not for babies.

Oh, I just thought. I've got some books and magazine on pregnancy and b___stfeeding that have real photos of b___stfeeding mothers and babies. I have shown her these pictures also. and described to her what the mommy and baby were doing and why.

ASK THEM IF THEY KNOW HOW A COW FEEDS HER BABY OR A KITTEN OR A DOG AND SAY THATS HOW MOMMA FEEDS HER BABY TOO. THATS WHAT MY LACTATION CONSULTANT TOLD ME TO TELL MY 3 1/2 YR OLD SON AND HE UNDERSTOOD. AND HE IS FASCINATED W/ BOOBS, TOO. SO I HOPE THIS HELPS GOOD LUCK...

Ah, yes the cow and cat idea sounds great. I think a picturebook would come in handy as well. Thanks!
