a nipple shield is something you wear over the nipple only and you wear to nurse if you have a sore nipple or if your nipples are small, to help your baby learn to latch. a b___st shell is much larger and it's kinda like a cup over your areole, you wear it under your bra when you are NOT nursing so that fabric does not brush your sensitive nipples. some b___st shells collect milk too. and relieves engorgement by allowing your b___st to leak slowly. But believe me if you want to relieve engorgement, the best way is to pump.. that is during the early stages when you are trying to establish your milk supply.

Don't use a nipple shield unless you really need to. It can slow milk production and is not recommended. I used one because I had flat nipples and my son could not latch on. The shield helped me not to quit b___stfeeding. Now we can do it without. The b___stshells are good to have. Not only do they keep the fabric off sore b___sts, they can also help bring out flat nipples. The b___st shield is made by Madela so anywhere that sells that brand should have the shield. I bought mine at Target but I've also seen them at Babies R Us. I got my first shield and shells in the hospital for free (well I'm sure it's in the bill somewhere).
