I am due July 20th and am scheduled to have a c-section the week of the 10th. I was wondering, am I going to feel up to going to the beach one month after the c-section? and is it ok to take a 1 month old baby to the beach? Also how long will it take to get back to normal after the c-section? Will I be able to walk upstairs to my bedroom when I get home from the hospital or will I need to stay in our guest bedroom downstairs? Thanks for your help!

The only answer I can say is every c-section is different, not to mention every person! Each of my 3 c-sections was very different recovery-wise. As far as the baby... yep, you can definitely take a 1 month old to the beach... just be sure to have a shady place for baby to snooze and a shady place to go with the baby when it's feeding time. 1 month olds usually sleep a lot, so it might be really peaceful at that age! But... is this a trip that you have to say for sure whether or not you're going or is it something that you can play it by ear? Because the truth is that you just don't know how up to it you will be until that time... there are a lot of factors... how your recovery goes, what type of baby you have (easy or demanding makes a BIG difference in how you feel), etc. Anyway, good luck with your new LO!!!

sahmof 3 is right every csection is different but bringing a newborn baby to the beach sounds a little dangerous to me. newborns are suppose to be kept out of direct and/or indirect sunlight or they can burn. Also newborns cant use sunblock and on a beach i cant imagine there being too much shade around. If you have to go to the beach maybe get someone to watch your little one while you go (if your ok after ur section). Aftre my 3rd csection I had to walk up three flights of stairs to get to my bedroom, I was released 3 days after having her and I found it difficult but not to bad. You have to wait to see how you feel after your section, my 1st was horrid I could barely walk for 6 weeks (mind you i was in labour for 3 3hours before I had the section) but my 2nd was fantastic and day 2 I was released from the hospital and shopping.

Well, I took my 3 month old to the beach. We kept him in his stroller with the sunshade completely shading him and a blanket even over top of that. His skin was never directly exposed. We were at a hotel, so when I had to nurse I just took him up to the room. Overreacting much, candaceann??

After my c section i hurt for about 2 weeks. At first its really bad, for about a week but it gets better. You should be fine. I went to the beach when she was about a month old. Now im just going from my experience, you may be different. But i think you will be ok

My DD is 4 weeks old today, and I had a csection. I just took her to the beach two days ago, and it was FINE! We brought a sand tent that I kept her under, and I kept a light blanket on her, and she loved it. The breeze was wonderful. She slept the whole time, we were only there for about 2 hours, but she would smile when the breeze would b__w. I think it is fine. I felt fine 3 days after my csection, but everyone is different. Good luck!

Take your kid to the beach and then wonder why they develop skin cancer someday... Use common sense...

Candaceann- we live at the beach. So going to the beach for us is like you going to the park. We don't spend all day there. We just go for a bit. usually just a stroll. My ds is covered by his shade the whole time... I grew up at the beach and know all about skin protection. I have a family member with skin cancer. He never went into the sun. He also never took his shirt off and the cancer is on his back. Go figure???

candaceann1...you know there is a thing called SHADE! Obviously someone isn't going to put their 1 month old baby out with suntan lotion on to roast in the sun. Anyway Kelly, I do know that you aren't supposed to go in the water until you are 6 weeks PP because of risk of infection.

DMK_ Denise? Do you remember me from the TTC thread? Congrats on your son!! How old is he now? My dd is 4 weeks. She is fantastic! Also, I agree, with living in Florida, we are always in the sun and have learned how to take precautions. My dad also was diagnosed with skin cancer, so we have learned a lot from that too. My dd was kept in the shade the entire time as well.

Hi NB (Nicole right?)- Yes it's me from the ttc board. My ds is 3 1/2 weeks. It is so awesome being a Mommy to a baby again! I feel very blessed!!!! Congrats on your little girl. Now you have one of each. How's school going? I remember how crazy your schedule was with school and work. Hard doing all that and being pregnant on top of it. Was your csection scheduled?
