I have an inguinal hernia on the right side of my groin and I am 8 weeks pregnant with my first baby. I was curious if I will have to have a c-section or not. Since whenever I strain for any reason it bulges and if I strain to hard it starts to get painful and the bulge gets bigger. I have heard of some women having it repaired later in pregnancy before they deliever, but I would be worried that all the pushing will just undo everything the surgery did. Has anyone dealt with this before? Should I opt for a c-section then having the hernia repaired right then or however that works?

That's probably something only your doctor can answer. My daughter had inguinal hernias on both sides, but we had them repaired when she was three months old. It was an outpatient surgery, closed up with tape (no st_tches on the outside). I'm not sure how the procedure differs for an adult. We were told that the danger in the hernia was that it could become strangulated, which means it wouldn't retract, and would require immediate surgery if that happened. Usually if you require surgery while pregnant, it's done during the second trimester.
