Just how painful is a c-section?

Are you planning on having one? Its painful, but some womens expereinces with it is different. I am having another c/s in January and I don't remember completetly how painful it was....I have tried to put it out of my mind. Just know if you have one....take it easy!!!!! Don't try to overdue it then you will really be in pain.

i want to know too! hehe. im gonna ask my ob once i finally get to my appt. what all the options are, the pain levels, and the recovery times and all that. you will get amazing stories of no pain to horror stories of women who got really messed up, so just remember every woman is different. your experience will be unique to you.

Very. Long recovery, had both kinds of delivery, wouldn't do a c-section if I had the choice.

I was just curious, because me dr. told me I may have to have one, my mother had one and told me even though they numb you, you are still in extreme pain..my mom told me v____al is better and you heal better.

Trust me a c-section is very painful! Just 3 weeks ago i had a c-section and i was in so much pain the doctors were afraid i was gonna have a stroke (due to my blood pressure dropping to the floor). If you have a choice DONT do it because right after you have to be very careful what you do because your incision can bust open and get infected. Remember you will be taking care of a baby so its not easy to "take it easy". But if youre gonna have a c-section remember to ask for medication IMMEDIATELY! Once they wheel you into the recovery room you will start to feel the surgery and it is painful so dont hesitate to ask for morphine or whatever. Trust me i waited too long to ask for painkillers and i almost had a seizure. Its no joke. Try to be calm and dont be afraid to buzz for the nurse. Good luck, and make sure you have at least 2 weeks of help after you have the baby. Those two weeks is the most critical healing time. LUCK!

as I said before, for me,no where near as painful as a v____al birth. Why do you think some women call out in agony when they give birth? My birth was not over...as they say, once the baby was born,I hurt to sit down, weeing was awful.2nd a planned c section, what a difference, more controlled, able to enjoy the birth, the recovery not as bad as I was told, with pain meds it was easily managable.I would have a section again, but two's enough.

for me it was more of a soreness, not pain. it's very uncomf. getting in and out of bed for a few days, but it was so much better than i expected.

Depends on you. I've had 6 surgeries to repair problems w/my v____al delivery. Still can't sit comfortably 12 months later. Don't stress out about either form of delivery. Millions of women have great v____al deliveries. Millions of women have great c-section experiences. Just get educated about what to expect and know that you'll be able to handle it. We all do. Regardless of the problems, that baby is worth it all and makes it a lot less painful.

A C-section is painful. I think alot of it has to do with how prepared you where to have the c-section. Mine was an emergency and it took probably close to 3-4 weeks before I felt normal. Just know when you stand up after the procedure support your belly otherwise it really does feel like something is being ripped open.

Jbear - October 7

During the actual procedure, you feel a lot of pressure, but no pain. The recovery does involve some pain, but after about three weeks you'll feel like yourself again. It's not something I would have done for fun, but that's what it took for me to have a healthy baby, so it was worth it.

I just found out today I have to have a c-section. My baby is breech and over 9 pounds. My other 2 pregnancies were easy v____al births. I am really concerned about the recovery. Any help?

My section was planned, and as marcie said above,I need'nt have worried, the birth was awsome, the recovery, was fine not as bad as expected, just ask for the meds and it is ok.I would definately choose a section again,I wonder why women want a natural after a section?Maybe like v____a births they have had a bad time.I think a planned is better than emergency

I think it has to do with anatomy some. I think women who have inadequate pelvises have more painful c-sections than those who could have delivered v____ally due to more tugging, pulling and manuevering needed to get their babies out. My sister has a great pelvis and delivered well with 2 of her kids, but had a turn for the worse in her 3rd delivery so a c/s. Her pain level was about the same but her scar hurt for a bit longer. On the othe hand, my best friend is teeny tiny and narrow and her c-section was awfully painful for her, she took a long time to recover and was bruised horribly. Maybe it's because they scheduled hers a week before her due date? I had a v____al, no fun, but I wouldn't want her pain for sure.
