Three Very Different C Sections Part II

As I said before, just thoguht I'd post all three of my stories- to give an idea of how different they can be! This is my second baby's birth... When I found out I was pregnant with my second baby I planned on having VBAC, but at my 20 week u/s I was found to have scarring so thick on my cervix that I'd probably never dilate (explains a lot about my first labor!), so I decided on a repeat c-section. On Jan. 22, 2004, I went in to have my little girl:) I was put into the room I'd be staying in first, to fill out paperwork and to be monitored- it was so relaxed compared to when I had my son! The time came and I was wheeled to the OR. DH had to wait outside until the spinal was done, which I honestly barely felt! When I was numb my doctor began. The nurse anesthestist stayed at my head the whole time and talked me through it. At one point I felt like I could vomit and was given meds to calm my stomach. I had been told earlier that a sudden drop in blood pressure can cause that! Then those meds made my whole face itch really bad, and I was given more meds for that which made me very sleepy, warm and comfy! I was really trying to stay awake, though, because I began to realize this was taking forever. I was feeling odd tugging and pulling sensations! 32 minutes after the start of surgery I heard, "It's a girl." She was held over the curtain for a second. (The curtain is placed at your chest level to prevent you from seeing the surgery going on!) Anyway, my little girl was immediately taken over to the warmer bed and I could see them putting a tube down her throat. She hadn't cried! The Nurse Anesthetist said she had gotten "junk" in her lungs and had to be suctioned and would have to go to NICU for observation. After a bit, she began crying and dh was allowed to hold her and bring her over for me to see. We talked to her for about 2 minutes, then dh went with her to NICU while I was st_tched. When my doctor was done st_tching me, she came over and explained that my dd had been head down, face up as she was making the incision. Just as she was about to finish the incision, my dd looked up, took a breath and turned breech and had to be pulled out by her legs. Anyway, I was taken to recovery until I could feel my legs again. Then my whole bed was wheeled in to NICU so I could see her! As soon as I was back in my regular room and could feel my legs completely (about 2 1/2 hours after my surgery) I got out of bed, got a wheelchair and had dh take me to NICU! This is very soon to be out of bed, but the nurses were really encouraging it so I could get to NICU and begin trying to br___tfeed (which with my IV's and baby's IV's, tubes and wires was an ordeal- another story!) Anyway, my recovery was much quicker with this one. I took pain meds right away, before the spianl had even worn off, and that helped. It was sometimes painful over the next few weeks- especially coming home to my active 3 1/2yo- but I wasn't as wiped out as I had been with the first. BTW my daughter was taken 10 days early, and was 8 lbs. 3 oz. 20 1/2".
