Your dr didn't talk to you about this before he started? Usually there is two different types of c-sections......bikini & vertical. Most dr's are performing bikini now a days. Sorry, I don't have an answer for you, but you should definitely get a hold of him and talk to him about this...........even though the jobs already done, it might give you peace of mind as to why he cut above the naval...

my 1st c-section was an emergency and I have a vertical cut on the outside but on the inside of the uterus it is transverse (across). For me it was a matter of time and that is quicker.

I would definitely find out why. I had a vertical cesarean as well but only the cut on my uterus was vertical but my exterior incision was a bikini cut.
