When I had my DS 5 yrs ago, my doc did internal sutures..and i had no staples...i was able to shower after 2 days, and did not have to go back for any kind of removal.
But now i just keep hearing about staples...since i have a different doctor this time, im fearful i may get them..my friend couldnt shower for like weeks w/staples. Yikes

Don't worry suze42, I had staples and I showered the second day. I didn't have any troubles with the staples so I'm not sure why your friend couldn't shower for weeks. I got mine taken out on Day 6. - I'd like to know why some docs use st_tches and some use staples. I wonder what their reasons are.

Hi there, I had staples on the outside with all 3 sections. they were removed on the third day prior to going home. I showered on the second day in the hospital and patted the area dry.

Suze, I had my son in May 04. I had staples and was able to shower just about 24 hours after I had him. They removed them the day I went home and I didn't have to go back to have anything else done with them.

Same here. I was able to shower the second day and they took them out the day I went home. It didn't hurt at all when they removed them.

Suze, thank you for posting this. I too had stiches that desolved and never had staples. I really don't like the idea of having to have them removed. Does anyone know the pro's of staples or st_tches? If there arent any, I like the idea of having the stiches again that desolved.

I have my first c-sec in 2005 and had sutures that disolved - no problems. I had my second c-sec in 2006 and my doc. said that he would use staples because the incision would hold together better due to scar tissue and I wouldn't be left with as bad of a scar as my first time around. He said that staples usually leave less of a scar. I had them taken out 7 days after my c-sec and had no problems. It didn't hurt at all to have them taken out and my scar is hardly noticeable.

I too had staples and was able to shower on day two. They weren't nearly as bad as I thought they were going to be. I had a really good nurse, they didn't hurt coming out and that was my biggest fear. They also removed my staples on the day that I was leaving; which was four days after I got them. I had bothe staples & internal stiches.

I had my c-section in July 2003 and I had something that looked like green fishing line. I showered soon after (Not sure how long) I had to go back and have the line removed about 4 days after I was released. They just snipped the end and pulled it out in one big pull. It burned pretty bad at that time but went away pretty quick. The good part is I have very little scarring. Is anyone else familiar with what I had? I am getting ready to have c-section #2 on the 29th, just curious what to expect.

I think when you have st_tches internal and on the outside, your cut heals a lot nicer then with staples... I think staples are just cheaper and less time consuming. I am sure you can ask for st_tches though. I told the doctors to double st_tch everything so my cut would be smaller. They fallowed what I said. I was able to shower also right away and My cut looks amazing.

I think some of the recommendations have changed over the last few years... at least they did at my hospital. I wasn't allowed to shower for a week after having my oldest (he'll be 7yo in 2 weeks), but after my 2nd and 3rd babies (Jan. 04 and July 05) I was allowed to shower the next day. I had st_tches. My best friend delivered at the same hospital and had staples with her two (June 02 and August 05), but was allowed to shower 2 days later.

I have just had my 4th csection and I didnt have staples this time and I wish I did. You will have st_tches internally and on the outer skin you will have those sticky things holding the incision closed. Well this time I didnt have staples, with staples I showered 2nd day and had mine removed about 5 days afterwards, well this time without st_tches I tore open the top layer of my skin which I have never done before. I have been lucky fighting off infection, havent had one yet, but I wish I had staples again it just helps in healing the top layer of skin so much as it has been 18 days since my section and I am finally healing on the top layer of skin. I would do what works best for you, if you found no staples was good go with that if you had problems try the staples. they do not hurt to get them removed at all, take care

I just had a c-section on the 14th and have internal st_tches and had staples. I showered the 2nd day and had my staples out on day 4 and have steri-strips where the staples were. They will fall off in about a week. No incision problems so far.

Well I was really unsure of which to get because I had st_tches before (11 years ago) but after reading this I am not going to get staples!!! I thought the idea sounded nasty so I did not want them, but you know now I am sure! Thanks for all the help!

When I had my 1st daughter I had staples.. I also had hard time taking a shower on my own. I was not able to rinse my hair or lift my hands. I had really hard time walking and healing. That was 4yrs ago and I now have a 6mth old little girl and I had stiches.... It was totally different. I was scheduled to have my daughter early morning and was abel to walk that same night. I was able to shower on my own and I didnt even need help getting out of bed. IF I WOULD become pregnant again I would prefer to get stiches again. I also healed alot sooner. With staples you skin on not completly closed its just STAPLED the doctor also told me stapled is alot easier to get infections...
