Hi,
I just had my son in January (he's about 14 weeks) and love him so much that I REALLY want to start planning for my next one. To be honest, I'm a little surprised by how ready I am to conceive again, but it took me about five years to have him and now that I know I can have children, I want them pretty close together. My midwife reccommened that I wait 18 months before even thinking of conceiving again and I'm not exactly sure why. I did end up having a c-section (though I was extremely against it from the start!) and have recovered very well! I have no pain and am pleased with the healing. However, I am nervous about the safety behind this decision. Does anyone out there have any advice for me? What's the quickest I can conceive safely? What about the scarring? Not to be vain, but I worry about looking like I've been butchered down there! (my current scar is the bikini cut kind). I also am pretty sure that I'm not going to attempt a V-BAC and would like information from people who've had multiple c-sections about what their scarring was like? Is it substantially worse from birth to birth? Any and all information would be helpful and appreciated?

I've had 4 csections - Aug 1998, may 2000, feb 2007, and may 2008. I have had no unusual problems, and it only took me about a week to bounce back after this most recent csection. I am already picking up my one year old, doing laundry, etc, and my son is only 2 1/2 weeks old. With my dr, he cut me open in the same spot, and my scarring is minimal, he was awesome. I did have some keloids, which is the upraised scarring, but my doctor fixed that this last birth. Hope that helps - you can't see my scar at all if I have on a bikini or undies.

3 c-sections are the max for alot of doctors though some will do more I have seen people have 2 c-sections close together I recommend waiting until your baby is 5 months old before trying again I have seen over a hundred everything will be fine good luck!

I was ready to conceive early after my first son, c-section delivery, but we ended up waiting until he was 6 months, not too bad! My son just turned a year in June and my second son is due in September. They will be 15 months apart and I have had no complications due to the c-section, and I am planning for another c-section then as well.

My ob/gyn recommends a wait time of 6 months to a year after a c section before ttc again but there are other factors that may be personal to you to make that wait time longer. Ask your midwife why 18 months. My internal medicine doctor (primary care doctor) had a different opinion than my ob/gyn and told me to wait AT LEAST one year but not because of the c section, because of preeclampsia and what that did to my organs (liver and kidneys). I conceived 13 months after my 1st c section and am going to have my 2nd c section in 4 weeks.
