hi there i prefer to have the spinal block just for the simple fact i want to be alert and see my baby ya know...but you can have it arranged with the anestesiologist that you want to be knocked out if you start freaking out....he can be ready to either knock you out or give you some med to calm you down...so i would rather be awake but i think it is a personal choice?

I know what you mean, i am scared of the epidural, as i know things can go wrong with it, and the feeling of them pulling and the pressure that people talk about. I can handle pain pretty good, but just worried of freaking out!! The only reason i dont want to be knocked out is for the obvious reason, of wanting to see and hear my babies scream when they are delivered!!! I have a while to talk to my doctors before its time for that!!! Thanks for your reply amy :))

well if it helps i have had 2 spinals and they dont hurt....i did have problems with my first one and i freaked out but what happened to me was rare and my second one was a breeze....ya know i think if you concentrate on what your getting out of it and not what they are doing to you it will be ok! also the pressure is not bad it just fills like someone is jiggling your belly back and forth thats all....and you feel NO pain....if you have any more questions feel free to ask

When I had my emergency c-section, I asked for a general anesthetic, and the anesthesiologist refused, saying it increased mother/infant mortality by 300%...so I had a regional instead...couldn't feel a thing from my armpits down, and I would've been conscious for the surgery, except I fell asleep. (Had been in full-b__wn labor for 24 hours prior to the c-section, so I was a little tired)

I was terrified with my first c-section. I let the anthielogist know and she gave me some meds to calm down and relax me. I had an epidural and I was fine. Don't worry , I know that is hard to do, just let the doctors know whats up and they will take care of you.

I had an emergency c-section and they just increased the epidural. I will never ever forget the sound of my son crying for the first time and wouldn't trade my experience for anything. You'll be fine - it is so fast and you don't feel pain.

Its up to you, the difference is this, if they put u to sleep, u will wake up, but be very drowsy and u really won't get to bond with ur babies until the next day, cause they will be giving u pain med. Now when I had my c/s, I was put to sleep first, and it was with 1st baby, I had bad gas, felt like a heart attack. It was horrible and ended up still getting hemroids, cause my bowels were constipated. That was the worst bm I have ever had my whole life, and being cut on top of all that. When u r put to sleep, ur organs stop for a bit, at lease that is what the nurse told me. With my second son, I had the epidural it hurt a little putting it in, but after I got my feeling back, I was great, no gas no constipation, I could walk. After the epidural was wearing off, I starting itching all over and couldn't scratch cause I couldn't move! LOL but that's a side affect, it went away after an hour or so. I will be having one again with my last preg, when ever it happens.

i had a spinal with both of my children and i still had gas...man to be that was the worst of it all, the gas pains...i was up walking and feeling fine, but my stomache hurt sooooo bad from gas pains...so i dont think that had anything to do with being put out

I had an emergency c-section with my first and was put under just as my son was being born. I hated it. My recovery was much worse than normal. I was soooo out of it for sooo long. I am having another c-section but this time I will have a spinal so I can know what is going on and not be so out of it.
