I had a c-section 2 weeks ago and yesterday a small amount of drainage was coming out of it, today I went to the dr to have it checked.. she opened it and fluid and some blood flowed out of it. She packed it and said this was common and didn't seem overly worried. She did say it would take longer to recover but I am totally uncomfortable and if anyone reads this let me know if you had the same problem and how it went.

It will heal, you just have to be patient. It takes a long time. By packing it, it prolongs the healing process, but allows it to heal from the inside out which is the right way to do it. I had my c-section in July and I am just now feeling better. I thought I had a hematoma, but it ends up that I had an infection on the inside from my c-section surgery. It hasn't been fun... but my daughter was all worth it.....

I had a c-section on July 26th and it wasn't planned. I feel like I am the only person in the world with a c-section wound not healing like others do but I see that they are so many of you out there. It makes me feel so much better and not so alone! My staples started to bother me and where started to make the area red and swore. By the time I went to get my staples removed the following week after the c-section, the doctor immediately said that he sees that its infected and that he will have to tear it open and pack it with saline and gauze. I was terrrified!!!!!!!!! I wasn't expecting that at all. It was too much for me to take in at the time. Being a new mom and having to deal with motherhood and the c-section is bad enough but now the doctor is telling me that a nurse will be coming to my house to re-pack the wound every day, boy that was pretty depressing to hear! I cried my eyes out when I left the doctors office!
The nurses came to house for about a month and at that point they felt that I was healing very well, actually better than alot of girls that they were seeing for the same problem. But here we are close to December and although the doctor says that I'm healed, I can occasionally bleed if I hit it a certain way if I'm wearing my jeans. It doesn't always happen but it bothers me. The doctor says that I have granulation there. The sides are completely healed but its just the very center that isn't quite there yet.
I'm just wondering if anyone else still has problems with it bleeding or anything at all like that?
I would never recommend having a c-section to anyone who just wants to have it instead of v____ally.
It's a pain to have to deal with when you have a newborn.

My incision doesn't bleed anymore, but if I do hit the spot of my incision on something or it rubs against the counter or something, it hurts terribly.

Mine also still hurts after months. Sometimes it has a purple color to the cut. I hade a problem with mine bleeding for a few months but after that it stopped. the DR. did tell me not to lift anything very heavy for a long time. Maybe you should wait to put on jeans it could be causing you some harm. Good Luck

Flo....I understand your concern and have the same problem with my incision still bleeding. It doesn't happen everyday, but on occasion it will happen for a few days in a row. My daughter was born on Feb. 10th of this year and will soon be 10 months old. My incision is still open and no one has any answers...all I have been told is that it is unusual and there is nothing that they can do except have plastic surgery. I have written a few times before, but feel resigned to say that I will have an opening the rest of my life where there shouldn't be one. I wish you luck and hope that yours will heal completely.

HI Ladies, I am an RN, has ANYONE BEEN CULTURED FOR MRSA? An awful lot of you are describing a MRSA infection. This particular Staph does not respond to nearly any antibiotics. Two are the best, IV Vancomycin and Clinidine...please insist your doctor culture a sample from your wounds, this is ridiculous and I am so sorry you are suffering so. Good luck.

When my incision opened and drained, the doctor did culture it and it came back positive for staph aureus, but rare amount. I was put on Dicloxicillin for a while though.....Now, I am all healed... thank goodness. It did take a while. I can't bear the thought of having another section and this incision being cut open again. It frightens me so much because of what I have been through.

I don't blame you, Jen, can you have a VBAC? Many mothers who are unfortunate enough to need wound packing, etc. deliver v____ally next time in my hospital and are much relieved by the experience. One mother was so worried that her delivery might go c-section anyways that when we left her alone for a bit she unhooked all her Iv's, moniters, etc. and was trying to leave the unit!!!! She was so traumatized by how long her last wound took to heal and all the debridement and packing that she thought we were going to section her and the mere idea was worth making a run for it...sounds comical now, but at the time the look of sheer terror in her eyes made us all cry. She ended up delivering v____ally and was all smiles after that. Whew!!!

Hi Maisy... I would love to have a vbac.. Next time around I am going to get my doctors opinion on it. From what I understand, not all doctors like to do it. We'll see.

Hi Jen, I do not want to advise you to go against your doctors VALID advice regarding your next method of delivery. If you do not have the same conditions, ie. inadequate pelvic shape, BP problems, toxemia, extra large babies, etc. then it is perfectly within your rights to attempt a v____al delivery. I am a firm believer in VBACs and have witnessed many where the mothers did fantastically well. It is one of our proudest moments when we here a previous c-section mom say "I did it, I really did it!" after they deliver VBAC. There are some mom's who try and the same scenario repeats itself, but for the most part, the moms do just fine. If "the chance" you need another c-section exists is the only reason, then that holds true for EVERY woman...now doesn't it? Be your own advocate, really insist on getting the exact reasons your doctor will try to deliver you by repeat c..it is your body after all. Glad your infection cleared up!!!

Same thing happened to me, almost exactly, but it was 7 days after the surgery, and I had sutures.(Never had any staples on the outside). I went to the ER when it happened, as there was so much yellow fluid coming from the wound it seemed like I was peeing out of my abdomen!! The ER doctor thought so too, and I had a series of tests to see if my bladder was openand leaking on the inside(called a fissure). Luckily, it was not that, but a very bad infection. Apparently I had some sort of allergic reaction to the stiches(the kind that dissolve) and they had to re-open the incision. It had to be sc___ped out and packed with this weird packing material made of some kind of metal(?). A week later, it still wasn't healing, so they had to hook up this thing called a wound vac and it had a tube leading out into this canister, it drained all the infected fluid. It had to be hooked up 23 hours a day. Thank goodness it worked fast, and I only had to use it for a week. I was in and out of a special wound care clinic three times a week for almost 5 weeks. Not to scare the c___p out of you, honey(though I'm sure you're already pretty scared) but you need to get to see your doctorASAP, if not sooner. If I had known sooner that something wasn't right, it probably would never have gotten so bad. Good Luck!
