In response to Barbara - women with symptoms such as yourself visit an average 10-12 doctors before their symptoms are acknowledged and investigated properly. Go to your doctor and ask for an ultrasound and biopsy to determine the nature of your lump. This condition is reported to affect only 0.03-0.15% of women who have had a C-section, however this figure does not account for the likely significant number of patients who remain undiagnosed or are misdiagnosed.
in response to my own post a few weeks back - yes I now have a confirmed diagnosis of incisional endometriosis - only because I pushed the GP, gynaecologist and general surgeon to consider this as a likely diagnosis to investigate.
I have read all the research published in English in medical journals over the past 20 yrs on this topic (a measly approx 15 articles with no sound research at all) and I would have to say that medical litigation would be a waste of time, money, and emotions. You will not win any litigation suit against the surgeon who performed the C-section because there is insufficient research available. Also, most western countries require some form of (general major nowadays) "damage" to have been done - pain and suffering alone is insufficient.
However, I believe we have a responsibility to educate our gynaecologists about correct procedure - in most cases they would not have the time or the facilities to access research specifically on this topic (remember, it is rare, despite the large representative of ladies posting in this forum). If anyone would like some copies of sound medical information relating to likely causes, and procedure to reduce the risk of causing incisional endometriosis when performing a C-section to forward to their doctor, please post here and I can send an electronic copy.

I have had similiar issues, but on the right side of my lower abdomen. i have had 3 c- sections and have a lump above my incision and have plenty of pain. I am going to an endometriosis specialist after finding information about incisional endometriosis that sounds similar to our symptoms. You might want to find out more information about this disease. Hopefully I was of some help. Good luck!

Hi all....well this is my 3rd csection with a tubal. Have swelling on my right side with pain above my sutures and I am 10days post op......this dont sound good and I am tired of bleeding. I think I stop then start burgundy blood with a few clots , thought it would get better in time and not doing well. I go to my doctor tomorrow and reading all this makes me really wonder. I know one thing, I wont let them jack me around since I read everyone's column and problems. If I find out anything new I will let everyone know. I do know one thing, the doctor did tell me in surgery I had tons of scar tissue he removed and cleaned up, it took him over 2 hours to do this. 1 hour just to get the baby out. And the baby was fine. Not a normal csection at all like my last 2. Plus my spinal started wearing off while they were closing me, about killed me too of pain, started feeling them pushing on my uterus and putting it back in. I was freaking out. And was not happy. They kept saying it was pressure and let me tellyou friends, it was not pressure, Piercing pain!!All I have to say after what I was just put thru, they better find out quick why I am swelling on this one side or someone is going to have a lawsuit.......I am not putting up with it.So I will keep you ladies posted.

I wrote about two months ago. I like to find those who had laprascopy to remove adhesion. Did it resolve the pains? How long has the laprascopy done? Thank you.

I also suffer from the same symptoms and have been for 3 years. My obgyn put me on continuous birth control pills but it doesnt help. I want a lap done and am having a hard time finding a surgeon to do it. At my last gyn appt he pretty much blew off the r sided pain conversation and said I was just fine from his point of view. I am now searching for a new gyn. Does any one here live in florida that could recommend a Dr that has helped. My next step right now is a plastic surgeon, i am really hoping he can help. Any advise?

I've had hernia surgery, one this year, one last year. I also still have a sharp pain whenever I cough, sneeze, or laugh on the right side, near my C-section scar. I have had that pain for the last 11 years, the age of my last child. One specialist said it was skelatal pain, nothing to do about it but rub some aspercreme on it, thats what he said. So, I have no idea. The hernias were bad enough, still recooperating from that mess, and my doctor seems to think I have more. First surgery, I had 7, second surgery, I had 5. My stomach looks like hell, and the only way I was told to prevent more hernias was with a tummy tuck, and abdominal muscles tightening. Only thing is, my insurance won't pay for none of it, and the cost is more than I can handle. So, I will continue to have more hernia surgeries, with insurance paying for it. Sounds insane to me.

Hi all..I logged on in June..and have kept looking in to see how all of you are. I know the pain that each of you speaks about. One thing that I did try..that provided some relief, was a (female) physio therapist, specializing in pelvic floor-women's organs, muscles, tissues. She taught an amazing cla__s regarding our pelvic floors...and exercises to prevent urin leakage later on in life.(for example...was one of the things that she taught) HOWever...she 'treated' my left side numerous times...(a session of physio)...but I stopped going because the pain was way too much. That is where my story picks up in an earlier entry here. I am now scheduled for surgery, to have a st_tch removed.(at least that is what the Dr. says it is.) But I wanted to mention my physio experience..because she WAS wonderful! A decent, honest person that told me that she could do no more for me..and that I should continue with the Dr. route. My physio attended the birth of my 3rd child...SHE WAs Awesome!
Anyway, it would be interesting to know if any of you have tried physio...
Take care all,
TJ

I am sitting here crying. Why was it so hard to find all of you. My beautiful second son first c-section was born 5-5-04. I have been through it all and still have left sided pain. I have had surgery, untrasounds and scans. All they come up with is nerve pain. I get some relief in now knowing I am not crazy. I felt like the docs no longer believe me and they think I want the stupid pain meds. Please! I did have a hernia and repair surgery but pain on left is still there. Love to you all. It is hard to take care of a family and also have daily pain.

Had my first section in 1999 & have had pain on left side EVERY SINGLE DAY since! I've had MRI, CAT scans, laporoscopic surgery to remove adhesions, x-rays, pain medications, physical therapy, TRIED EVERYTHING! Had another section in 2001, now PG again... due in 01/06. The docs say I'm just depressed, because they can't find anything wrong... wouldn't you be too if in pain constantly since 1999? I pray daily for an answer & solution to this pain & to be taken seriously by just one doctor!

Melania,
I have a copy of my chart and they wrote in it that they thought I was depressed as well. If we could get relief I am sure we would be a lot more happy. I am sorry you are suffering as well. I called my doc again tonight. I will keep you posted if I find out anything new. PS I am printing this page so I can show my Doctor all of these cases. My Doc has tried everything to help me but seems to be stuck like all the rest.

Malena, has the adhesion pain caused any problem in your pregnancies? Sorry to hear that you are suffering everyday. I am trying something different for my adhesion. I have been taken herbs in the past 5 weeks. The doctor told me my adhesion is due to uterus infection develops slowly and old blood was clotted up. The herb suppose to cure adhesion, but I still don't feel that much difference. I will keep you posted.
