I have the same thing - i had an emergancy c-section 10 years ago. When my pain started i was told it was my coil, then it was a hernia and finally I was told it is an endometrioma. I have having urgery in two weeks to have it removed. If i remember rightly I was told that it means some of my cells were sown into the c-section wound and as it has a blood supply it has developed into this thing. It is like a fybroid or cyst.

Hi cynthia, I have been trying to repond for days and I am having trouble with the site. I hope this goes through today. I am in full pain mode now about ten days after my period and it is killing me. I am waiting for the doc to review my negative hospital results and it seems like it is taking forever. They are then just going to schedule a pelvic sono , I feel like I am going in cricles and everyone is SO tired of hearing me. It is hard to walk today and I ran out of advil Seems like a dose of 800 mg ( four advil) help me but it seems excessive? Do you know anything about adhesions? I would love to know what this has to do with my cycle. I know from the last five months that in about a week more the pain will completely go away till my NEXT period and then starts again? Why does that happen? Does anyone know. Cynthia I am so sorry to hear you had to go through all of this with the hernia and now this. please let me know how your lapo goes. Take Care and be well. lori

Sam and Elizabeth - I'd love to hear more about how your surgery went/will go, recovery-wise. My OBGYN and I are pretty certain that I too have an incisional endometrioma, and I am tentatively scheduled for surgery in a few weeks. He thinks I may be out the same day, but it seems a little hard to believe. I have two small children, and am wondering how laid up I'm going to be. FYI, I too have completely predictable cyclical pain, along with a swelling on the left side of my incision. The pain has gotten progressively worse over the past two years (since my emergency c-section), to the point they are actually prescribing a fentanyl patch this month (though I don't plan on actually using it - will try and get through one last month with Tylenol and Aleve. Pharmacist said you can go up to 1000mg Tylenol and 800mg Aleve per day, and take both - seems crazy). Also, based on my reading of recent medical literature, I have requested an MRI, and will have it done next week, to better a.) visualize the endometrioma and hopefully confirm the diagnosis, and b.) figure out which layers of tissue/muscle/fat/fascia it's in, so we can get a better idea re: length of hospital stay and recovery. Others of you might also suggest an MRI. And, lastly, for those of you still trying to figure this stuff out, IF you have an endometrioma, the symptoms are cyclical because it is actual endometrial tissue, just in the wrong place. So it swells and bleeds and reacts to hormones in your bloodstream just like your regular endometrium, in the lining of your uterus. Funny, this is supposedly a very unusual condition, but I'm starting to think (and this has been suggested in the medical literature) that it's waaay underdiagnosed! Good luck to all.

i finally got into my doc, he referred me to my gyno because he thinks i have adhesion disease, i went to the gyno on thurs (oct27) and he said he thinks that is a bundle of nerves so he gave me an injection in my stomach, it is a numbing thing..he said it is what they use for epidurals. he also said that he had a woman with the same symptoms that i have and she hasnt had pain since he numbed the area. Unfortunatly it didnt work for me. I am in more pain now than i was before. he hit the lump in my stomach with the needle when he was numbing the area and i nearly jumped off the table. the next thing he wants to do is send me to a general surgeon to have a lapo done and to remove the lump. i just want the pain to go away. I am missing shifts at work due to the pain and i cant keep up with my kids. hopefully when they do the lapo the doc will find the REAL problem!!!

Hi girls- BACK AGAIN. I went back and re-read my posts. It's sort of like a diary! My 1st was on 9/28/04. My laparascopy was around 5/13/05, which was when my doc found some monster adhesions and NO endo. Also said I had a spngy uterus (???). 'The Pain', as I now like to call it, was the same for a couple of cyles, then went away, and now is back and fully charged. WTF?!?! Now, though, it is only for about 2 days out of my period, when bleeding is heaviest. SHARP left sided pain , the exact same spot every time. Doesn't radiate. Like I've got a double edged knife sticking right in me. Can't move. Can't pa__s gas. Can't have a BM. Can't laugh. Can't cough. Can't pick up my 18 mo old. I can I guess, but not without pain. My doc prescribed Tylenol 3's....HAHAHA what a joke!! When I told him that isn't cutting it, he just blew me off thinking I'm a pill popper. I WOULD LIKE NOT TO BE. IF I WASN'T IN PAIN I WOULDN'T NEED PILLS. Arghhhhhhhhhh. Something else you ladies have been talking about has caught my attention. My c-section scar is still very tender to the touch. Can't do the missionary position, too much pressure on the scar. Can't do 'oral' because 'he' always puts his hand right on the scar. Have to be careful w/the baby now that he is so big crawling on my lap. The other night I yelped and shoved him off of me and felt soooo terrible for him. I hurt his poor little feelings so bad. He hit it just right and I didn't have time to think. I had just been erroneously thinking that a scar like that would take time to heal, but I think 18 mo.s is plenty enough time. I also do not think the pain on my left side is related to the tender c-scar. The scar doesn't hurt unless someone or something touches it, soft or light touch- doesn't matter. Have to wear granny panties because bikinis kill. They sit right on it! I know I need to call my doc AGAIN, but it really is getting sooooo tiring. I started taking an anti-depressant, partly because of this. I feel like the medical community has really let a lot of us down. I'm wondering if they are afraid to REALLY recognize the problems a__sociated with c-sections, because they are afraid women who really need them won't want them and will therefore endanger the life of their unborn child. Perhaps they all DO know and this is a conspiracy!! Conspiracy or not, I need help!!! Does anyone else still have a tender scar after a year and a half? No lumps or bumps. What do you guys think this is? I need to get my life on track, my s_x life too! !@$$#%^^*

Hi robinchk, If the doctor "hit your lump" when he inserted the needle into your stomach (and yes, this absolutely kills, I had a core biopsy of mine and was literally in shock afterwards) then a laproscopy will be no use for you. If the doctor hit the lump this means the lump is outside the pelvic region that can be visualised in a lapro. Sounds to me like an U/S or MRI would be more appropriate. Please read Suzanne's post above - she explains well the issue of which "layer" of your body the lump is located in. Doctors do not usually inject directly into the area that is visible in a lapro!

robinchk - October 30

thanks for the input emmah. I have already had 2 u/s and they havent shown anything. all of the test that i have had have come back normal. I am getting so frustrated!!! Did the core biopsy that you had done get you any definate diagnosis?

emmah - October 30

Core biopsy gave me a definite diagnosis of incisional endometriosis. Some of the medical literature I have read suggests that there is a risk of spreading the endo into the needle tract when doing a core biopsy. Seems to be OK for me though (fingers crossed it stays that way).

Susan, I had my surgery 11 days ago. I have an almost 3 year old and almost 5 year old. My husband took a week off so I could recover. It was a 90 minute surgery with 2 hours in recovery then I went home. They gave me a prescription for vicadine but I only needed it for one day and then switched to 800ml. motrin. My doctor said it would be a two week recovery but I was up and around in three days. I am still sore and I dont pick up the kids but I can clean, cook, and take care of them. I have less pain than before my surgery. I see my surgeon on Tuesday so I will post if I get more info that may be helpful. Hope this helped:)

Suzanne - October 31

Thanks Elizabeth for the post-op info. I especially your liked your point about being in less pain now than before surgery. I was thinking just today (pain is back in full force) that worrying about recovering from a surgery seems silly when I can barely function two out of every four weeks! After the MRI this week, we should be able to tell where the endometrioma is (hopefully it'll be no deeper than yours), and that should give me a better idea about recovery time. I'm taking a week off work (it'll be 7 days total I'm home), so hopefully that will be enough. The first two or three days the kids will be in daycare, and after that my husband will be home, so hopefully I can actually take a little time to recover (which, as you know, you don't have the luxury to do with a c-section! especially with your second baby). Anyway, thanks much - your post was definitely helpful. Hope you continue to have a good recovery, and that your pain stays away for good!

Hello all, My doctor reviewed my negative catscan results from June when I went to Emergency and said I am very healthy. He told me last night I have Severe Menstural cramps????? I just want to cry these are NOT menstural cramps and when I told him I was feeling better he said you see? I said yes it comes every month for about 12-14 days after my period starts and then stops when ovualtion comes this has been going on since June?? It is sore and feels like I am bleeding on the inside and it is hard to walk and stand but it is NOT a PERIOD CRAMP. I know the difference. I am so aggreviated. I thought I was getting someone where when last month he told me it might be adhesions. This is not fair. Now I have to waitt ill next month and go see him again and then it will start all over again. VERY FRUSTRATING!!! Any suggestions?

Wow what a relief although saddening to know there are so many of you out there that are feeling just as awful as I am. i thought I was the only one going through this horrific pain. My baby is now 16months old and after having a hernia diagnosed and fixed after 10th i still have a lot of pain. Have recently beeen through more tests ultrasounds and xrays to be told there is very littl that can be done about the pain I have. mine is mostly on the right side and I take painkillers every night to numb it a little. i can barely pick up my own child and have had to stop doing many things I used to enjoy as I am sore, near tears and just plain exhausted from the pain most of the time. We wanted to have 2 children but i now will never go back heaven forbid I ever have to go through all this again. I will keep on with the doctors and the surgeons and will let you know if I have a miracle - wish i could provide one myself but all i can say is don't let anyone make you think it's in your head - it's not, and it's real pain and we have to try and find out why this keeps happening to so many women. Good luck all.

hi all! i just wanted to post a little good news. I went to my chiropractor as a last st_tch effort for helping with the pain. I still have the local pain around my lump but he was able to help with the burning that i had in my left hip. He said it had to do with the ligaments and muscle that run around the hip bone. He did say that he couldnt get rid of all of the pain but he did get rid of the burning. It has made the pain somewhat tollerable. Hopefully this can help some of you as well!!!

I had a c section in january of 04 and about a year later developed a lump on my lower left side it burns and stings when my clothese touch it or anything for that matter and i look fat on that side. I saw a dr and she said it was scar tissur..I didnt agree i thought it was a cyst i didnt know about all of this stuff and as soon as I have insurance in december i am going to see a new dr Thank you for all your posts so now i know not to just let it hurt forever.

sunshine - November 12

It could be scare tissue from the c-section. I had a c-section and the scar tissue was painful. my pain was on the right side though, I had scar tissue from a laporoscopy also. When you apply heat to it does it feel better? Like in a hot shower or warm bath? It helped me when I also started to do abdominal exercises (seriously helped my abs and pelvic area get better and stronger), I was in a lot of pain prior to doing that. I hope this helps. I was there!
