I had a c section about a week ago. My hands and feet are so swollen, they are numb. Is this normal? What can I do to reduce the swelling?

I was really swollen after my c-section in August. My ankles looked like tree trunks and I had red blotches in the most swollen areas. My doctor told me to rest whenever possible with my feet elevated, and the swelling was gone within 2 weeks. I tried taking pills for water retention, but they didn't do any good.
